Resident 2004 - 2007

8/28/2007

I have lived in the Atrium for 3 years in a top-floor two bedroom apartment. Some of the things said below are true, but many are not. 1) Electric bill - The atrium does not pay your utilities, and heat and air conditioning can be very expensive. In the last 3 years my electric bills have ranged between $150-$250 dollars a month. This is not a, "downside" nobody lied, they tell you this, explicitly when you move in. Simply consider it an additional cost of living here. 2) Noisy - This is "somewhat" true. This building is 80% Boston University undergrads, and they play their music loud. However, the only people who suffer are those who grin and bear it without calling security. Last September 1st I had noisy neighbors. I called security 6 times over the course of the first month. Each time security came within 15 minutes to talk to them. After the 6th time (this is not a rule, it just happened in my case) management evicted them. They take behavior very seriously here, and they do evict people who are problem tenants. 3) Staff - They are very good. You can e-mail maintenance problems, and about 85% of the time they are resolved within 24 hours. About 15% of the time they lose your e-mail and you have to ask again, so it's important, if they do not respond within 24 hours, to send a follow up e-mail. They don't just "duct tape" things, they really try to make you happy. I had a toilet that didn't flush properly, they tried to fix it twice, then replaced the toilet. The manager lives on site, and is a very nice guy. Staff turnover is roughly 0, I've been working with the same manager, office girl, security guards, and maintenance staff the entire time I've lived here. 4) Construction Quality - Good. Thick, comfortable carpets, nice woodwork in kitchens...bathrooms a bit plastic. 5) Parking is expensive ($200/month) but underground and secured. Zero car related crimes committed since I moved in that I'm aware of. 6) Common spaces - well, if cheaply maintained. The hallways are well lit, but it's all flourecent. They repaint the building twice a year to cover up all the damage done by people moving in and out constantly (students), but it's not the prettiest paint color (generic off-white). 7) The elevator situation is great - 4 of them, all located in different parts of the building means you are never far away. They are rarely broken, only 1 significant outage since I moved in (1 month last summer, they had to replace the entire West-side elevator). 8) Location is amazing! Grocery store next door, gym next door, UPS store next door, dry cleaning next door... All in all, it's a very nice building with a few flaws...the best building near Boston University, without a doubt (thats why I live here, going to school) not sure how it would be for somebody just looking for a place to move in. Mostly populated by rich bastards who don't understand what it's like to live in anything less than a mansion...I think thats where the bad reviews below come from.
