Resident 2008 - 2009

7/13/2009

I will try and be as objective as possible, but living here for the short time was unbelievably bad. Pros: 1. Nice garage 2. located near the fenway/back bay area 3. retail stores located downstairs 4. walking distance to whole foods 5. very very cheerful greeting when first moving in 6. nice views from the rooftop terrace Cons: 1. The property. The building is VERY old...with no temperature insulation in windows (very very drafty) or walls. Not to mention, the high amounts of noise that penetrate the paper-thin walls and windows. 2. Smell something funny? If (and please do NOT) you move in and notice a savory smell that you can't seem to pinpoint, you're smelling the odor of RODENT POISON. We noticed it as soon as we moved in, even over the smell of the fresh coat of floor wax. It seemed to come from every room, but especially from the kitchen. We could not even open our windows as there were pigeons sitting on the sill right outside. We initially shrugged it off as nothing of importance, but....(please read on to issue #3) 3. rodents galore. After discovering that our trash bags were eaten through over night, we poked around and found mouse droppings all over the top of our kitchen cabinets AND REFRIGERATOR. We also discovered mouse traps under the kitchen counters, and inside the air conditioning units in both the bedrooms. We also discovered mouse poison in each of those areas. So to reiterate, we found mouse droppings AND mouse poisons in the kitchen (amongst other rooms): the place where we prepare and store our food. 4. maintenance issues. Maintenance took weeks to finally resolve (in their eyes) the multiple issues we've had. It was never fully resolved the whole time we were there. 5. questionable neighbors. We would see many residents that made us raise an eyebrow...for instance there is an old woman who lives on the second floor who rolls around in a wheelchair (absolutely nothing wrong with that) who has a strong smell of urine (bearable, as long as she's not in the elevator with us) and GOES THROUGH OUR GARBAGE AFTER WE THROW IT AWAY IN THE GARBAGE ROOM (totally unacceptable). There are other residents who look like they haven't bathed in months. During our many conversations with the Assistant Property Manager (who ended up being the only person who would listen to our problems with some empathy), it was revealed that there were residents living there under a state sponsored low-income resident program. We really didn't have an issue with this, until we discovered the pee-smelling lady going through our trash, and the large gentleman who would stare at my wife anytime they were in the elevator together. I typically do not post things of this nature online, but our experience with this apartment has left a very bad taste in our mouths. Not to mention we still can imagine the smell of that mouse poison. urg We ended up moving to the trilogy apartments at fenway. and haven't looked back.
