Resident 2012 - 2014

12/4/2014

It's a terrible place to live but if you want to live in the Navy Yard this is likely your cheapest option. We had an atrocious neighbor, she was constantly hassling us. She obviously had some sort of mental problem. She once claimed she could smell a candle in our apartment and that the smell was keeping her up at night. She forced her way into our apartment when my wife was opening the door and looked around uninvited and told us to remove an air freshener from the bathroom because "the smell gives me migraines." That actually happened. Made the mistake of going to bed one night with the door in the lock position but it was sort of ajar - we had a guy come into our apartment drunk in the middle of the night and fall asleep on our couch as a result. I had to wake him up and tell him I was calling the police to get him out. That actually happened. Lot of maintenance issues - toilet not sealed to the floor correctly and sewage was leaking out, asked to have it fixed 3 times, nothing, fixed it myself. One of our windows clearly wasnt installed properly, in the winter the draft would actually move the shade. Appliances look new but are low quality (stove never at the right temperature if you test it, etc). Give the tap water a good pH test too, not sure what they're doing but I had it read over 9. The WHO actually claims pH between 10-12.5 can cause your hair to fall out, so - cool man. Enjoy. I never used the laundry room. They run some scam where you have to get a card and get it refilled with them. Bring your clothes to Monument Laundry down the street, they wash and fold it for you for half the price and theyll deliver. The gym is comical. In the winter it's freezing. Any common area there are mutants everywhere - insane people and/or old people that should not be on their own. There's some guy I started calling the Marlborough Man who is outside smoking day and night near the door, as in all day all night, he is there smoking. Welcome home! They had a girl Jenny who left who ran the office who was pretty good, she'd email you stuff and respond quickly, They just renovated the lobby with some atrocious artwork. Not sure why they took out the 40 yo disgusting carpet and replaced it with light yellow carpeting that is going to be stained by the spring. There have been so many weird notices - a water main broke, there was a major air quality problem with the first floor, for about 3 months at one point they had an apartment vacant with the door open and an industrial sized fan blowing air out of it - I have no idea what happened in that apartment but it couldn't have been good. Biggest thing that aggrivates me is that the front door is CONSTANTLY propped open. There's no point in advertising it as a secured building if you LEAVE OPEN THE DOOR THAT REQUIRES A KEY. Lot of other miscellaneous pleasantries. Weird people roaming around, there's a guy on the first floor who I always see bringing in weird people and I know he's selling drugs, etc. Avoid this place. This review was like therapy for me.
