Resident 2006 - 2009

7/20/2009

I've lived here for three years now and since the new management came in the place has gone from so-so to lousy. Yes, they've put on new doors, new carpets, painted the hallways, and re-paved the parking lot. But they have been at this for more than six-months and are still not finished. In the meantime the areas being worked on look like a bomb hit them, and needed maintenance has not been completed. I have been waiting for my AC to be fixed for 2 months. After 2 attempts all I have to show for it is a furnace that no longer works, because the idiots that they hired to fix the AC, had no clue as to what they were doing and broke it. So now the AC still isn't fixed and the furnace doesn't work either. During this past winter I had my furnace crap out on me 6 times over a 3 month period before they finally got it fixed and now it's broken yet again. During the winter, parking was a nightmare and snow removal was an absolute joke. This complex is on a hill and there is no exit at the bottom end of the parking lot. If your car doesn't do well in the snow, don't park at the bottom of the hill, you'll never get out. When the new owners came in the maintenance staff was cut from 5 to 3. Sherwood Park shares the maintenance staff with Oak Ridge Village (formerly Pheasant Run), and another couple of buildings in town. Altogether there are nearly 300 units. Three guys for 300 apartments just isn't enough. Especially when the units are 40 years old and weren't in the best of repair anyway. The grounds are littered with trash, particularly cigarette butts. The exterior of the buildings are filthy with broken shutters, and AC grills. The electrical outlets and phone jacks have all been painted over so often that plugging anything in is problematical at best. On the positive side the neighborhood is very nice and reasonably quite. Heat and hot water are included in the rent, and the units have dishwashers. This could be a nice place, but the previous owner had no interest in keeping it up and apparently the new owners are only interested in dressing it up just enough to get a few more suckers in here. Last I heard about 30% of the units were vacant. Now, if things change I will happily amend my review, but until they do, stay away from Sherwood Park Apartments, and look really closely at their sister property Oak Ridge Village before considering that as well.
