Resident 2013 - 2014

10/14/2014

DO NOT RENT - Unsanitary, Unprofessional and Untruthful! I began renting at Highland House in September of 2013 and NOT by choice. I was "tricked" into moving into Highland House after I was told within 1 week of moving to sister property Liberty Place, that my apartment would not be ready at Liberty Place due to the current tenant deciding not to leave. With 1 week's notice of this information, I had little choice but to entertain moving into an offered available apartment at Highland House. Upon first view of Highland House, there was a notable stench in the main leasing office hallways (where my soon-to-be-misery apartment was located). The location was played up by mention of the only building containing an elevator, gym and storage units. This was soon down-played visually by a large oil-stained carpeted hallway and visible scrapes all over the apartment door. The only positive of the apartment was the newly renovated kitchen at the time. Not long after move-in, there were several mice to be seen scurrying throughout the apartment, accompanied by mice feces in the bath (of all places) and of course the kitchen. Several complaints were made; including to the Randolph Housing Authority only to find that at least my building (building 11) was indeed infested with mice and that mine was not the only complaint, and would not be the only mice complaint made during my tenancy. The "convenient" elevator is dimly lit and "creepy," and also extremely slow - to the point that you could take the stairs to the top 4th floor and still arrive before the elevator. There were constant notifications from the tenants asking other tenants not to spit, urine or leave garbage in the elevator - none of these notices were written by me. I even have documentation and photos of a notification left on the building door not to let one said "wanted" man into the building who had apparently been sleeping in the laundry room! How unsafe is this!?! The leasing office left word with tenants that "rodent" specialists were treating the building for said "rodent" complaints, however prior to and several times afterwards I was forced to call the office for finding dead mice, droppings and even yet another dead mouse in my bedroom the day I moved out!!! This place is highly unsanitary and unsafe, and I wouldn't even recommend this complex to someone I'm not friendly with for fear of being sued just for the recommendation and knowing that this place is rodent infested. I am currently looking to sue the complex for falsely accusing me of damage done to the apartment which was likely done by mice or maintenance folks looking to "clear out the mice." I do not believe there are enough characters available for me to type the misery of experience had at Highland House except in short to say "rent if you dare,"
