I lived at Carlyle House Apartments from Oct 2004 to April 2005. The only reason I was there for such a short time is that my name came up on a public housing list. Being a struggling single mom to a 4 year old at the time, I could not pass up an affordable 2 bedroom apartment (I was renting a 1 bedroom at Carlyle). However, that is the only reason I moved from Carlyle House. I enjoyed my short time there. Roberta was wonderful and understanding as to why I needed to move and I was not held in violation of my lease. Maintenance was always on top of things when they needed to be fixed. The unit was quiet and had good soundproofing. The only negative experience I had while there had nothing to do with management or maintenance; it was with tenants, specifically the kids of one tenant. Also, about 2 weeks before I moved, at about 2:00 am one morning, a woman was pounding on unit doors, including mine, saying her "boyfriend was trying to kill her." Don't know if she was legitimately in danger or was a junkie who had been let into the building and was looking to rob someone who would open their door to her (I've heard that happens at apartment complexes). My call, and other tenant's calls, to 911 took care of that matter. Overall, my experience there was enjoyable and I would recommend it to anyone looking for an affordable, quiet place to live. I would move back there if I needed to.
