Resident 2005 - 2006

12/27/2006

We lived here for less than a year in a three bedroom/two bath two story apartment. We left as soon as we could. The parking is terrible, the only "rule" they enforce is making sure you pay your rent on time and the only real "service" they provide is landscaping. They don't clean the gutters which results in mold and bubbling walls. The insulation is terrible which results in high heating/cooling costs. The windows are ridiculous.. Ice literally forms on the window ledges on the INSIDE of the apartment. We had an energy audit done to figure out ways to get our $300.00 /mo winter electric bill under control. Basically, we were told that the apartment sucks and we might as well just pull out all the heavy blankets and deal. Alternatively, even in our unit facing the river, the summer is excrutiatingly hot. . And since the electric bill skyrockets the second we turn on the AC, do I even have to tell you how I suffered this summer? There's a serious ant infestation. So bad that we'd literally go through a can of Raid A WEEK, if not less! Started out with the large carpenter ants, then the small black ones and then the red ones. We pulled up the carpet in the living room to spray because the ants were coming in under the baseboard heaters, getting stuck in the carpet and dying there. I won't even mention the spiders. I'm still attempting to block those from my memory. The appliances are old and decrepit. The maintenance staff conveniently showed us how to -------fy our dishwasher so it'd work and they wouldn't have to replace it. There are an amazing amount of stray/loose cats so summer time (mating season) is especially interesting at night. However, on the other hand, the drive to and from the apartment village is scenic and quite beautiful in the early morning hours and dusk. You have my pity if you get stuck behind one of the farming vehicles that can't surpass 10mph, though. And, huge downfall here, the ONLY WAY to get to highways quickly is to cut through Holyoke.. and NOT the safe parts at that. And heaven forbid if you need the 391 because then you have the pleasure of crossing over Bondi's Island, the water treatment plant, which always smells so wonderful at 7am. I've heard complaints about how ground level apts are quite noisy.. mine was okay. Only issue here: My neighbors had a small obsession with hanging decorations/wall art until 11pm. There are a LOT of kids here, many of them not so well behaved. They think nothing of playing kickball/baseball/footballll in the vincinty of parked cars.
