Rodens and Male Prostitution

Rodents and Male prostitution Do not move in!!! Portland Street is full of male prostitutes after midnight. There is a strong smell of rodents throughout the place. There are many safety concerns for the tenants of this building that Management will not and cannot take care of. The staff keeps changing and is always unprofessional. There have been four Managers in the past year. The people at the main office in Dorchester don t care!! I am breaking my lease and would not recommend it to anyone. There are much better places to live in the Downtown area that are safer and cleaner. Parking sucks because you have to walk across the street in the "hood" to get to your car. It is noisy because the male prostitutes are out all night with the drug dealers on Portland Street.

      An Honest Review

I have lived here since October of 2007 and I will be renewing in the fall. This review is no BS. I am a real dude. I will eleborate on the given categories first. Parking There is plenty of it and you do have to pay for it. Indoors $80, Outdoors $50. Outdoors is always all filled up though. Right now I am a little miffed because the secure parking isn't really secure due to the doors being removed because of an accident last month and they still haven't been replaced. I'm paying an extra $30 just to park under a roof? Not cool. But in full disclosure I haven't talked to the property manager about this yet. I will tomorrow and see whether she knocks the thirty off my monthly bill. I think that is only fair. Noise The first 5 months I lived here I had a serious problem with my neighbors next to me. If I were judging only from my apartment I would say there are some inconsistencies with the thickness or lack there of regarding the walls seperating the units. I have never heard a peep out of neighbor to the left and sometimes when I leave he is… See More>

        Oh, where do I begin?

This is by far the most unprofessional, money-sucking, lack of customer service apartment I have ever lived in. During the winter, our heat bills were between $500-$600 and we kept our heat at 55 during the day and 60 at night. The hot water in our shower only lasted for about 3-4 minutes in the winter, not allowing two people to take a shower in the morning. Our "secure" parking garage door was broken for a month and left open, resulting in a stolen bike. The management continuously harassed us by saying we did not pay our rent or parking, when in reality we were NEVER even close to paying late--their horrible bookkeeping is sloppy, careless, and resulted in much stress. Management advertises free high-speed internet--the internet here often breaks down for 4-5 days on end with no notification from the staff. Also, management has rarely notified us of when we receive packages in the mail. When confronted with these issues, including in a legal demand letter, the manager and management of the apartment were unresponsive and acted as though we were lying. DO NOT even consider living here. If we… See More>

Bancroft Commons Writes All Their Good Reviews

Just so everyone knows on this website, the staff at Bancroft is required the write good reviews in their favor. It is blatant lying. If you want to get an honest review, it's not coming from the ones with 4 stars.

This place is turning into what it WAS

Lived here five years now. Will not be renewing my lease this summer. Management is painting things bright ugly colors. Security is only here at nights...what about day time? Hellllo! All the nice stuff has been taken out. Nice artwork-furniture and where the heck did the big lions go? Replaced with a poor excuse for a POTS. The elevators look awful- lobby smells - business room always hogged by people that dont even live here! My buddy got stuck in the elevator a few weeks back. I mean c'mon now. Do you not realize other properties send us mail and ask us to move in with no first or last? Rent is cheaper elsewhere. Parking is a nightmare! Put a doorman out front would ya? Solve the problem! Bancroft and JM should be preservinggggg this place, not making into some modern motel. What happened to hotel living? It does not look hotel living anymore. Wheres the luxury?

              DONT LIVE HERE

This is the biggest bunch of -------- that these people are posting I recently moved out because of the crap that was getting pulled in that place. The rent is crazy $650 a month for a shoebox?!? Since I moved out of that ---- hole over the winter my electric bill went from 250 plus to 49 dollars!!! Seriously don't be fooled, and DONT waste your money or time looking at this place. It is not a safe area, and you CAN get a much better place if you just keep looking! The staff at Bancroft is a bunch of uneducated and idiots who point fingers at each other! The neighbors in that building are loud and disrespectful, no place for a student to live. I should have paid more attention to the other postings.

                Nice Place Highly recommended

I have lived at the Bancroft for approx a year now and will be renewing my lease. Yes and I will agree that the office staff has had several turnovers however if they do not do their jobs and are RUDE should go. I have had a few problems in my apartment and they have been fixed, the new maintenance guy which by the way IS AWESOME and does seem to know what he is doing and what I heard is the new manager brought him with her. WAY TO GO!!!!! I hope they gave her a bonus for that one!!!!! The new manager seems to have it together, she is control and does not seem to have a problem with putting anyone in check, and really want to say THANK YOU to the MAYO GROUP!!! For hiring her, this girl came in and stood up and pretty cleaned up, there is a new staff which by the way is a lot friendlier than the last. Nobody would help us, she is leaving for the day my hands where full and she actually turned around and asked if I needed her help. She actually… See More>

                    Many changes taking place!

Looking at the reviews, many of them were written during the time that the Mayo Group was going through a lot of staff changes. I have lived in the building for awhile now and through all the office staff changes. What I will say is that the building has definately shaped up ever since the current staff has taken over. Things are finally getting in order. 1. I noticed a main concern was electricity bills. I live in a 750 sq ft apartment and the highest my bill has been is $250 in a winter month. I dont know if people are sitting at home all day running up electric bills or just arent paying them to be having such high bills. And you don't think having a dishwater won't run the electric bill up even more? 2. As far as complaints with the maintenance. I agree that if you atleast approach the office, that's the only way they know you need something fixed. I have had to put in a couple of work orders myself and waalaa they were taken care of! 3. When it comes to homelessness and prostitution in the area that is… See More>

I like my apartment at Bancroft. I live in a studio and it is a very fair price for what it includes. I looked at a lot of different places and this one is the best. My apartment was completely new when I moved in, which is cool. The new maintenance guy is really good.

                          DO NOT LIVE HERE!!

I currently live at Bancroft Commons and it has been a nightmare. The biggest problem is our electric bill. The units are heated by electric heat, which is really expensive, and our monthly bill for the winter for a 650 sq ft apartment is almost $500! The staff is rude and not very helpful. They have screwed up my rent 3 times even though I have ALWAYS paid on time. I have heard many similar comments from other renters as well. My advice is do not live here!

Elevators There are 3. Two of the 3 work. Currently, construction personnel obstruct the use of at least one of the two all day long. They are loud and unkempt. Lobby Clean as a whistle Mailroom Clean as a whistle, with the occasional unwanted advertisement by various residents who think they have the right to advertise. Office Staff Great. Yet every week or so it seems as if all the people change. They always move on to better things so residents are told. Business Center Occupied by the same people every night. This should not be aloud. Security - Police Patrol None. This is bad neighborhood. Dont believe me? Contact Worcester Police and ask them about the area, and about PORTLAND street in specifics. It is high volume homelessness and prostitution. Suites Overrated. No dishwashers. High ceilings making electric bills high. Expect on average 300$ in winter months. High floors, higher prices. Hot water does not stay hot for an average 5 minute shower. It will become warm/cold. Only one security bold. Peeping holes help. Doors in suites hung incorrectly, and in a fast manner to meet Mayo Group Quota. Windows are not new, and they are drafty. Blinds are tacky and out of date. Construction ANNOYING! How many /professionals? / college students? live here?

Wow! I have been reading the reviews as I took a tour of Bancroft Commons and am getting ready to rent here. I am disappointed in the reviews. The place looks nice. I do find it very odd that there are no dishwashers in a new construction plan. What's with that? I was told that it might be just another thing to break and then repair. Is that comment a RED FLAG about things breaking? Am I over reacting? My new job is located in Worcester but now I am having second thoughts about this place and the area in general. I know that downtown Worcester is no jewel...bit nervous about it as I will be working long hours and returning "home" late at night. I have been told by the property managers that the neighborhood is turning around....major construction planned....Theater/opera house, deconstruction of the shopping mall, building some residential and commercial properties, etc. Does anyone know the time frame for the start and COMPLETION of that project? I was approached by a homeless man looking for a handout when I left the building. I was not too happy about that. He walked right across from the park and boldly interrupted… See More>

Look closely & don't be anxious

I had one weekend to find a place to live near here, I saw their website, and arranged a visit. The staff was friendly, the show apartment looked alright, and every problem I noticed was explained away as a construction / renovation issue. So I signed a 1-year lease and put down a huge deposit. When I moved in, I discovered that I had no hot water anywhere, no water at all in the shower/tub, no screen on one window, no working cable jacks (wires not terminated), only 2 working stove eyes, and a poorly installed new toilet. I fixed the toilet, tried to fix the stove and gave up, and called maintenance about the shower and water heater. "Maintenance" isn't really there, it's an answering service who calls the real guys for you. And as has been mentioned, they are illegals who barely speak english, though they are very nice for what it's worth. But when you try and explain your problem to them, i don't think they genuinely understand what you're saying. So the guy shows up, goes into the shower, does something, says 'is all fixed now' and leaves. And like a… See More>

This is by far the worst place I have ever lived. It is exactly 6 50am and there is banging going on outside my apartment, which is breaking their lease agreement and state law. There are about a hundred reason why not to live here, MOST IMPORTANTLY...at 730 am one morning I had a construction worker with my key walk into my apartment. After I told management and they did change my lock (which you would hope they'd do) they asked all there workers who did it, no on owned up to entering my place...ARE THESE THE TYPE OF UNHONEST PEOPLE YOU WANT AROUND WHERE YOU LIVE...Also how was someone able to get my key anyways?!?! Mass law states only the landlord may have a key...here are a few other reasons why a cardboard box on the side of the road would be better then this dump; First, they think its OK to bring in sheet rock at 3 am, not normal. Second, there is continious banging at all times of the day, and no matter how many times you complain NOTHING changes. Third, this place its made out of the crappest matterial around, sure the lobby looks great and… See More>

This is the worst place I have ever lived in in my entire life. First, there are constructions workers yelling at eachother all day long and banging on the walls and anything else they can find. There are also all sorts of wires and things hanging from the hallways, NOT SAFE. Second, they think that its a good idea to install sheet rock at 3am, NOT NORMAL. Third, they feels its OK to break the lease left and right...quite hours don't exist, and apparently the tenants keys are with in reach of whom ever wants to get in. In my time there, I have had numerious people barging through my door. Most seriously, a construction worker entering my room at 7 30 am!!! Which of course now everyone on the crew says its wasn't them, nice and honest people they have working in there. Fourth, there have been so many broken promises by everyone involved in that place, do you really want to get involved with people like this?!?! Lastly, although the lobby might looks great, there is no quailty behind that place. I am convinced that it is put together with cardboard and ducktape 675 a month is CRAZY!… See More>

Did you ever think about how awful it was a few years ago with mcr management? Maybe that is why the rent was so cheap - nothing ever got fixed - EVER - there was drugs, prostitution, crime, homeless people everywhere. What crappy renovations? Everything is getting updated. They gave everyone the opportunity to move before the renovations began, and even gave us a heads up that the rents would be more market rate. If you find a better deals, it's in main south or the suburbs! I've been lookign around too, only because i am switching schools, and i haven't found anything with utilities included. it seems to be the trend for landlords. if you paid attention to rising costs of utilities, eespecially electricity, then you would understand why the bill is so high. i had a drafty window too, and i told the office about it, made an appointment to get it switched out (i had to move things away fromthe window), and now i don't have any problems. maybe if you made an appointment instead of complainign on here about it, your problem would be fixed. i… See More>

They catcall the tenants and in general make you feel uncomfortable and dirty (the constant construction may have something to do with that). Watch out for their lies about quick maintenance and "neighborhood revitalization".

I WOULD NOT MOVE THERE AGAIN> I moved in and just as quickly MOVED OUT!

I just left my showing with this company and I have to disagree with the ticky-tacky statement. The renovated units were spacious with REALLY high ceilings. I liked the color scheme they have used and saw a new elevator being built. Overall it seemed like a friendly place. It's hot out and they even had ice cold bottled water for me! The staff was friendly and the buildings/grounds clean. I saw some of their other buildings but preferred the Bancroft. I'm getting an apartment with them for sure!
