Since the building opened in May 2012 we've found that Johns Hopkins students and staff have greater internet needs than many of our other properties. This summer we are continuing the second phase of a three-year upgrade by adding more wireless access points and replacing older switches. Now that Eager Park has opened along with Starbucks and Kabobi restaurant, the area has become even more vibrant. When the Marriott Residence Inn and its restaurants open later this year, there will be even more opportunities for dining and night life. It's only a matter of time before there are more grocery options in the area. Thanks for the great review and for being a wonderful resident of the 929 Apartments!
Because our units can be smaller than competitors, we balance that with all-inclusive rates (free water, gas, electric, internet & cable) and hot beverages. Most of our maintenance team have been with us since we opened in 2012 and are quite familiar with operations. However, some repairs require contractors who specialize (ex: HVAC, fitness equipment, etc) and we can be at the mercy of their schedules so we offer adjustments until repairs can be made. With more than 490 healthful Hopkins affiliates in our building, our fitness equipment gets quite a workout (pardon the pun). Maintenance continues to improve communication so work orders are not closed until completed. Our intent is to never ignore a work order, including after hours, but not all after hour work orders are considered an emergency. If a true emergency (ex: power outage, fire or major plumbing), maintenance have always and will always respond after hours. Our ability to respond differs from other communities. A simple leak repair may require a temporary loss of water in parts of the building. We know this is inconvenient so we give advance notice when possible and offer tips such as partially filling a bathtub for accessible clean water or to pour water down the toilet for sanitary purposes. Wind can be strong as it whips around our tower building and could force open improperly closed windows. If this occurs, please notify us immediately so we can address any water intrusion. Over time, some flooring may require replacement but this isn't always possible while the space is occupied. We must then make repair decisions to address the issue until it can be replaced when vacant. In 2016, Elauwit turned over cable to World Cinema so Elauwit could focus on providing faster bandwidth and internet connectivity. In July we will begin the second of a three upgrade to add more wireless access points. Karun, we thank you for the 5 years you've lived with us and wish you all the best!
Thank you for the 5 stars you've given to our community. Despite our many challenges, our team really tries to put their best foot forward in all they do. I see you gave low stars for the noise and neighborhood, which are not uncommon for this area. Being so close to the Johns Hopkins Hospital, the sounds of emergency vehicles can be annoying, but at the same time reassuring to know the people of Baltimore are receiving the highest level of care from our world class hospital. Located in an area of redevelopment, we face challenges unfamiliar to other Baltimore neighborhoods but you will begin to notice changes over the next few months. Starbucks will be opening one of five barista training centers in their coffee shop directly across the street from our building (in the 1812 Ashland building). Also, once adequate time is allowed for all plantings, grass and trees to be installed, Eager Park (right outside our front doors) will open in late spring. Its opening will coincide with the 2nd annual Momma Move 5K Run, block party and the Johns Hopkins Community Service Day. I am concerned by the exchange you say you had with one of our team members. Without knowing the details of your exchange, I can confirm there is a $200 reassignment fee for anyone who moves within the building. This covers the cost to have the vacated space professionally cleaned and painted before someone else can move in. There are also differing rates depending on floor plan, view, and any specials associated with one's current rate. For example, someone living in a four-bedroom apartment with three friends might have received the $100 off per month special. But if someone wanted to move out of that apartment, (s)he would forfeit that $100 off month special. Again, I do not know the specifics of your situation but I'm happy to meet with you to discuss what spaces we currently have available and their rates. I can be reached at [email protected] and look forward to your email.
In recent years, bed bugs have made a comeback and can be found anywhere from shelters to four-star hotels. As such, apartments are not exempt from these unwelcome visitors. Because we are not pest control professionals, we rely on them to respond and treat in a manner consistent with the current industry practices. Fortunately, we use the same pest control provider as the Johns Hopkins Hospital and the medical campus. By following the treatment program as recommended by pest control, we are pleased to report the problem has been eradicated in your former apartment. I am sorry for your experience, but pleased we were able to release you from your contractual obligation (and without financial penalty) so that you could find alternate housing and focus on your studies. Lastly, when leases begin after our three standard move-in dates (June 15th, August 1 and August 15th), applicants must select an end date that matches the end dates for those move-in dates (May 31st, July 15th or July 31st). This gives us two weeks to inspect, maintenance, clean and paint those vacated spaces for new students whose lease start date aligns closely with the academic program start dates of the Hopkins medical campus. We are sorry you disagree with this practice, but have found this to be the most sensible way to coordinate the move-in and welcome to the Baltimore area given our resident demographics. We hope you are happy in your new home and wish you the best in your academic pursuits!
The 929 Apartments is home to residents with different backgrounds, cultures and experiences. Applicants want to be assigned to certain floors or face certain directions. We offer rates based on view to accommodate not only these requests, but also for those whom view is not of concern. We are sorry the construction has been disruptive. The Marriot Residence Inn will be great for visitors, those seeking treatment and those supporting loved ones at the hospital and Kennedy Krieger. 1812 Ashland will be an innovation hub for companies. Both facilities will bring jobs and 22,000 sq ft of retail to the area! Though there will always be growing pains with construction, we are happy to share resident feedback with developers. With years of usage metrics from campuses including Syracuse, Purdue and UC Berkeley, we planned for our internet to meet residents' needs. But Hopkins was ahead of the pack and needed more. In four years, we increased bandwidth and wifi points three times to meet the unprecedented need. We are also planning upgrades over the next three years! Being the tallest graduate student housing community on the east coast, we deal with facilities issues that most communities do not. Whenever maintenance issues are brought to our concern, we act quickly to address or bring in an outside contractor to respond. Our courtesy officers work for a contracted company, the same company that provided security for the campus for many years. After our first year, we switched to the current company because they offer a competitive wage that includes benefits. As stated in the License Agreement, subletting is not permitted. However, we recognize that some may need to move-out prior to their end date so we will provide suggestions on how to find someone to take over the license. We are sorry you are not happy living with us, but feel free to share your concerns with us. You may not always get the answer you want, but we will always listen!
We are sorry to learn of your dissatisfaction. Located in an area under redevelopment, we face some challenges but we are working to overcome as many as we can. Though our average square footage can be smaller than other apartment complexes, we offer amenities that make us an attractive option such as our all-inclusive rates (free electric, gas, water/sewer, high-speed WiFi and cable). Other amenities include package notification, free hot beverage service, and in-unit washer/dryers. Safety is an important feature when choosing housing. A Baltimore City Police officer assigned to the area works from the Public Safety Office on our first floor. There are also round-the-clock foot and vehicular patrols around the building by PChange Protective Services. There are security kiosks on each corner from our building to the campus staffed by campus security. All residents are issued a keycard to access the lobby and residential areas of the building under the watchful eye of our closed-circuit cameras and 24-hour courtesy officers in the lobby. While no security system or personnel can guarantee protection against crime, we also rely on our residents to act in a reasonable manner to ensure their own safety. Your point about the lack of retail is valid, but steps are being taken to improve that. Since we opened in 2012, we have seen the area welcome 7-11, Atwater's, Walgreens, and Eager Park Eats (the food truck hub). Later this year, there will be a pizza shop on the corner and there has been discussion of a grocery store opening in the area. There will also be a restaurant by a major coffeehouse chain opening across the street in the fall along with restaurants and cafes in the hotel also being built also across the street. We hope you will visit at a later point to see how the area has grown! As a team, we appreciate your feedback so we can continue to improve the services we offer. Again, I am sorry you did not enjoy your stay with us but we wish you all the best
