There were apparently problems with management before I moved in, but about a year ago one of the owners and their family moved into the building to provide better management. Since I've lived here, the management has been fairly responsive to problems and requests. They are always friendly. The building is kept very clean and neat. The neighborhood is "transitional" so the management takes building security very seriously now. There are security cameras in halls and common spaces as well as all around the outside of the building. There is a security guard on duty at night. I was drawn to the property because its a beautiful historic building and has been rehabbed well. The apartments have high ceilings, huge windows, and an open floor plan which adds to the sense of spaciousness. There are pleasant common areas, including laundry room, gym, a family room sort of space, and the rooftop terrace is lovely! If you'd like to live in Baltimore without a car, or using your car only minimally, this is a marvelous location. I walk to work, stores, restaurants, and the fabulous Waverly Market--the only year-round farmer's market in Baltimore. It's close to Hopkins' main campus but outside the typical student radius, so late-night keggers next door and the rent is less expensive for a much nicer apt. There are Zipcars available less than a block away, the apt is on 2 major bus lines, is 8 blocks from the train station, and I've never had to wait longer than 5 mins to get a cab no matter what time of day or night.
