Resident 2014 - 2016

2/19/2016

Overall I have enjoyed living at Briarcliff for the past 2 years. I gave 4 stars because no place can be perfect unless it was a house I designed and built myself. We were lucky to get one of the brand new legacy apartments with a bigger wide open kitchen and new appliances and cabinets. There are many great benefits and some not so great things, but no place is perfect. The community at a whole needs to do their part along with management to keep things clean, after all we are all adults. I do enjoy the valet trash service pickup thats Sunday-thursday nights. However Im big on recycling and its nice to have the recycling only dumpsters a short walk away but people still throw their trash in front since either the dumpsters are full and not emptied often enough. I wish they tried to encourage more people to recycle, we only have one planet !!! The apartments construction is up to my high standard and having the concrete walls between units except for the front door really keeps things quiet, way more quieter then cheap or new construction where theres just some drywall. We do hear the neighbors but Im sure its a lot less then other properties. We have had some issues with our current unit but the staff has been great addressing them in a very timely fashion. Some of the cons that I have about the community: -Shared electric bill divided among entire community since buildings are older and not every apt has its own meter. Make sure to sign up with budget billing and the bill isn't bad/more then normal -Our dryer will sometimes take 2-3 cycles for it to dry an average size load -You can only sign a year lease, at the end of the year it renews for another year. Not a big deal if you plan to stay in the area for awhile. -Have to give 90 days notice to when you move out, when most other properties only do 30 or 60. -I don't agree with the pet policy and cats needing to be de-clawed Overall I think this is a wonderful community and would definitely recommend it to anyone looking to move into the area. ******There were many other communities in the area that offer much smaller units for the same amount per month as briarcliff. For the people that gripe about the outdated units, for the price these aren't bad. You don't upgrade the kitchen in your house every 5 years so don't expect a business to do that it costs a TON of money when you have 100's of units. If you want something really nice go find a brand new building thats offering 800 sf spaces for 3k a month.

While we certainly appreciate your candid remarks about your "cons," there were two items that simply need to be corrected in your appraisal: "-Shared electric bill divided among entire community since buildings are older and not every apt has its own meter. Make sure to sign up with budget billing and the bill isn't bad/more then normal..." Actually, the electricity bill is NOT shared. Each unit is individually metered for electric usage, which is why you receive a bill directly from BGE. Gas, water, and sewer; however, are not individually metered and are billed separately as "shared utilities." These utilities are billed by a 3rd party agent and, since establishing our RUBs policy in 2005, Briarcliff residents have been very successful in their efforts to reduce their consumption and conserve both water and energy. "-You can only sign a year lease, at the end of the year it renews for another year. Not a big deal if you plan to stay in the area for awhile." As a matter of fact, we have been signing 13 to 24-month leases for the last five years. At renewal time, I encourage you to or anyone wishing to remain in their apartment beyond a one-year committment to contact the Leasing Office. Sometimes there are certain conditions that may preclude us from making an offer beyond one year without a rent increase; however, we are always willing to consider a request for a long-term renewal. And with regard to your maintenance issue with your dryer, I do apologize if you have been experiencing such an issue. If you have not already done so, please reach out directly to the property manager via our website: www.briarcliffapartments.com and inform them of this ongoing issue. Again, we appreciate all of your comments and are ecstatic that you think Briarcliff is a wonderful community - it's your home, and we take a tremendous amount of pride in the fact that you chose to live in a Briarcliff apartment.
