Resident 2005 - 2006

3/11/2006

I have a one bedroom deluxe (it has alot of space and two walk in closets). Overall the apartment is ok. I moved from a fairly new luxury apartment in Northern VA, so my standards are high.
Some good points are that there are that there are only two apartments to a floor so you have windows in the front and back, which is good in the spring and summer when you want to open windows. The kitchen and bathroom are remodelled, and there is a small washer and dryer in each apartment. There are ample cabinets and more than enough room for 1 person.
Some bad points are the apartments are old, and they did a shoddy paint job on the whole apartment except the kitchen and the bathroom (which were remodeled). My walls are also uneven; the ceiling and floor dips in many places. I think they need to invest in some better appliances (they have the low end Kenmore appliances). I occasionally hear my next door neighbor who is about my age (early to mid 20's) who has parties until the wee hours of the morning, but if I go in my bedroom and close the door, I do not hear it. I live on the top floor and sometimes I can hear the people downstairs walking around and slamming doors.
I currently work at night, and I like the fact that the parking spaces are right in front of the buildings, and they replaced all the streetlights and interior building lights. The downside though, is that they do most of the maintenance and landscaping during the day. Twice in the past month I have been woken up by drilling outside and downstairs when they replaced the mailboxes.
Overall I think it is a decent place to live if you are between homes or just starting out.

Make sure if you decide to live here that you take heed of the following:
*get blinds or curtains for the very large sliding glass door because they are not provided
*do a full inspection of the apartment when you move in.
*be advised that you are in howard county so some services are more expensive than 1 mile away in Baltimore county
*some of the entryways are very small so if you have large bulky items you may want to live on the first floor so you can move your items in through the patio door
*make sure you pay attention to any flyers or postings around the front of the buildings. Any inspections or notices are posted there.
