I read reviews on here about Hyattsville House when I was apartment hunting and almost didn't give the place a chance. I moved in here in April 2009 and have not regretted the decision one bit. Living here is my first time living in an apartment and all of the fears I had have not come to pass here. It's also great value for the money since your rent includes ALL utilities. I pay $950 for a 720 sq. ft. 1 bed. Ginger was very welcoming--both when I inquired on the phone and in person about the apartment. I am a single, under 30 y.o. black female and in my time here I have not experienced anything negative from Ginger or anyone else here. The building and the neighborhood are very diverse and quiet, and I feel very safe here (I have lived in the suburbs my entire life). I go running and frequently take walks in the neighborhood and have never had a problem. There is a middle school across the street, but I have not experienced any noise from that. Of course, I work a 9 to 5 job, so I'm not usually here during school hours to know if it's noisy. In the mornings, there's the usual hustle and bustle that can be expected with kids and parents getting their kids to school. Other than that, it's pretty quiet. As one person in the reviews noted, there is a laundry room on every floor and a full laundry room in the basement, which I'm so grateful for. The machines are card operated and this setup certainly beats having to schlep my stuff to a laundromat--something I've never done and tried to avoid when taking apartment buildings into consideration. The building is always kept clean inside and out and management is very responsive. The walls, however are thin, but since the people who live in the building are generally quiet, it has never been a problem for me. Aside from the building itself, the location is very convenient to lots of places. It's a pleasant 15 minute walk to the green line metro (or 5 minutes by bus which is in front of the building), 5 minutes drive into NE DC, 15 minutes drive to Silver Spring, 20 minutes driving to Gallery-Place/Chinatown. There's a mall near the metro station with restaurants, Starbucks, CVS, Hollywood Video, movie theater, Giant, Staples, Home Depot and lots more. I love living here and would recommend it to anyone looking for cleanliness, value for the money, convenience, and peace of mind.
