Westgate of Laurel

My husband and I have lived at Westgate of Laurel for two years. Our experience has been pretty mediocre. This past year a new management company has taken over, and we feel the complex has gone more downhill since then. One of the major pros about Westgate is that the apartments are pretty spacious. A washer and dryer also available in unit. However, the washer has a hose that needs to be plugged into the kitchen sink to work - there is no built in water hook-up for it. But still, more convenient than having to rely on a communal laundry area. We haven't really had too many issues with noise. Sometimes we can hear our neighbors from our bedroom.. the woman who lives next door has a loud laugh, so from time the time we hear that. It's bearable, though. Parking can be a bit annoying, but thankfully we haven't had as much of an issue with that. We live in the last building on the lot where parking tends to be a little more available, and we can usually get spots in front of our building. However, there have been a couple times when we came home after midnight and could not find any spots at all and had to resort to parking across the street. Visitor parking is pretty bad, too.. there are only a couple spots, and they always seem full. Maintenance has now become an issue. When we first moved in, we had an issue with our washing machine. I submitted a request, a guy came the same day, knew exactly what it was, and fixed it right away. Awesome. However, with the new management things are not the same. I recently had the exact same issue occur, and submitted a maintenance request. A guy finally came A WEEK later and obviously had no clue what he was doing. He mainly stood around playing on his phone. I explained what needed to be fixed, but he didn't know what I was talking about and instead did something else. It did not fix the issue, so I put in yet another request. Again, it was over a week later and still nobody had come. I went back to the office to insist someone come, and to explain AGAIN what exactly was wrong with it. I knew what it was; I could actually see the broken part. But still, the guy eventually came at a time when nobody was home and still had no idea how to fix it. Finally we got him to come back another day when my husband was home and was actually able ti physically show him the part that needed to be replaced. That finally did the trick and we got it fixed. However, the whole process took just short of a month all in all! Safety can sometimes be an issue, as well. When it gets cold out during the winter, sometimes some homeless people will hang out in the stairwell for warmth. They will even sit there and charge their phones. Usually when someone sees them, they'll at least move to another building for a while, but still. One of them actually got smart and realized he would be seen less often if he stayed on the top floor, and we found him sleeping outside our door! We mentioned this to the office many times, and though they were aware it was an issue, didn't really seem to care at all.
