I'll begin this review by stating that I have a good deal of experience when it comes to renting apartments-I've spent the last 7-8 years of my life renting different apartments in diverse locations (multiple sites in 4 states) as a necessary evil of being a grad student, intern, and early-career employee. This means I am pretty well-versed in the glamorous (joking, of course) tenant lifestyle and I have a solid frame of reference when it comes to considering whether a particular apartment is above or below par in terms of quality and pricing. I rented a 2-bedroom/1-bath apartment at Burnt Oaks North for a period of 6 months. From the top to bottom, Burnt Oaks North is a well-run establishment. The management was always friendly and responded to questions via call or email promptly. During the apartment-search phase, Kristen (Mount Harmony Property Management) spent a considerable amount of time showing me the selection of apartments that were available and answered all the questions that I had...no easy task. Quick hits: The maintenance team was always friendly and did their work well. By and large, my fellow tenants kept to themselves, but a few went out of their way to say hi and socialize. The apartment complex itself is very secure and I never felt that safety was a concern (that's a plus living anywhere within the vicinity of the DC Metro area). The boardwalk and small beach are just a few minutes away on foot, which is very nice; though, there's really not much to do in North Beach and its neighboring areas in the way of entertainment. Assigned parking and available visitor parking translated to me never jousting for a spot at the end of the day. Overall, many great things to say about the apartment and the surrounding town of North Beach. Of course, no place can be perfect; with this in mind, I'm brought to my lone complaint...price. This is probably an indictment on the Maryland way of life as a whole (i.e., incredible demand for apartments and lofty prices to match)-where it feels as if everything is overpriced (food, apparel, rentals, etc.)-not necessary Mount Harmony Property Management acting in isolation. That said, this apartment is technically situated in a rural area, so the price for me (~$1500 mo) caused a little dissonance. But, as I alluded to previously, there's: (1) high demand (many DC commuters), (2) little competition (it's shocking how few rental options are available in the DC metro area and it's surrounding geography), and (3) the inflated cost of living associated with living in MD...so price, taken in context, isn't highway robbery-it could be more affordable, however :) Overall: Burnt Oaks North has an excellent staff in a safe area. There is the added benefit of a decent commute to DC. The apartments and grounds are well-kept. If you can afford the price tag, renting here is one of the best options around, especially if you have a family.
