Resident 2009

Overall, it's OKAY here. Our next door neighbors are considerate and quiet. The people upstairs moved out a month after we moved in so its usually quiet in our apartment. However, before they moved, they would knock the things off our windows, and their kids would throw things down the stair case and into people's doors, they stole wreaths and seasonal decor. Thank god they are gone. The layout is nice, different, big living room and dining room. Also, the location is perfect here, very quiet neighborhood and beautifully landscaped. I can usually ignore most things on a daily basis. Now onto the bad... 1. We live in a two bedroom apt with 1 bathroom and out water bill is approx. $25-$45 per MONTH! They over charge and charge for the laundry room (there in ONE in every BLOCK and most of the washers/dryers don't work)one wash load is $1.50 and one dry is $1.50. The appliances are outdated and don't wash/dry well. I labeled the ones that don't work so the tenants wouldn't waste their money and the leasing office came along and removed my signs (which just said "Broken"). 2. We live in a heat-included building and we were promised an enclosed building with outer doors, which we don't have, and after living here for 7 months I have noticed only a few buildings have the outside doors. The hallways we have are in disrepair, the paint is chiping, there is spray paint everywhere, and they are dirty with stains, bugs, old flyers, etc. 3. Section 8 apartments. Nearly half of the building here are section 8. We were told there were no subsidized apartments here by the leasing office (another lie). There are police at those buildings at least once a week. There are sofas, tvs, garbage, etc around the dumpsters. These buildings are located nearest to the playground and I am uncomfortable walking my daughter over there to play and cannot take her after school hours because its is overrun with ignorant 8-14 year old kids without adult supervision who have no consideration for an adult with her 3 year old. 4. Stray cats, dog crap everywhere, neighbors who throw their old food out their back door instead of in the garbage. There are at least 8 stray cats that roam the grounds and poop near our sliding glass door, our neighbors don't pick up their dogs' crap and its right outside the parking area (in fact we stepped in it when moving in). A few of our neighbors just throw leftovers outside (for the cats I guess) and our dog takes off for it, he gets sick from it all over our carpet and the food outside eventually begins to rot and STINK. 5. No storage, people leave bikes, toys, plastic containers, etc outside under the stairwells and on their decks/patios because there is NO storage in the apartments, just 2 small towel closets and two regular closets in the bedroom(s), which hardly hold clothes. We still have several unpacked boxes in our living room because we have no place to put them. 6. BGE Honeywell thermostats. Without consulting the tenants, the leasing office decided to contract with BGE for the Smart Energy program which cycles your air for you in the summer (which I am not okay with, I pay my own BGE). In the Fall they sent out letters saying that during the next week they would "gain access to your apartment" to allow the BGE reps to come in and install the new digital thermostats....you do not have to be home for this installation. I was NOT ok with the leasing office staff (who are rude, disrespectful, and act like you live here for free) entering my apartment. I pay my rent in full and on time EVERY month and I do not appreciate this breach of my privacy so the leasing office could save money while still charging me the same. 7. The pool and gym AREN'T free. It costs $25 to get a card to access the exercise room at your convenience (free if you go when the leasing office is there which is between 9-5, when I work) and $10 per person over 18 to access the pool for three months. Just thought you should be aware BEFORE you sign your lease. The "office" area is a joke, the mouse doesn't work, the computers are old and slow, there is no printing allowed, THERE IS NO WI-FI, although the staff will tell you there is. 8. Damage to our apartment. There were dents, stains, scrapes etc to the walls, floors, and countertops in our apartment when we moved it. We were missing a screen and had to move them around so I could leave my bedroom windows open in the summer without someone jumping right in. We didn't and STILL don't have a silverware holder in our dishwasher despite asking the leasing office for one repeatedly. The dishwasher SUCKS, I buy expensive soap for the dishwasher and our dishes still come out filmy and with food stuck on them. The stove is small and the burners on top and uneven making everything you cook slide to one side. The tub drain CONSTANTLY clogs and we have to use drain cleaner once a week to keep it draining. Overall I don't HATE living here, but I do not want to spend another 2 years here (if we renew it HAS to be for 2 additional years)!
