I recently lived here for a little over a year, and overall I have to say that I had a very positive experience. I'll start with the pros: 1. Staff - This is the biggest advantage. While I hear stories of management in other buildings ignoring residents concerns or taking too slow to respond back, I've had no issues with the interactions I've had with Central staff. They were professional, approachable, and quick to respond. The new property manager, along with the assistant property manager, leasing staff, and all the concierge were great, keeping residents informed of community concerns. I really like the fact that, on a couple days, office hours extend past until the usual 6pm for those who work a little later. 2. Maintenance - I've had to submit 2 unique maintenance requests, and they were taken care of to my satisfaction. This is a new building, so I've never had any issues with hot water or any of the appliances. Maintenance team were also friendly and professional! 3. Appliances - I really like the large front-loading washer/dryer, and the fact that they have a bottom-freezer refrigerator. Most of the time I grab something from the fridge part, so I don't have to constantly bend down my head which has always been a minor annoyance in other buildings I've lived in previously. 4. Location/Safety - Another pro is that it's located right in downtown SS, with a bunch of restaurants, also next to Whole Foods and Safeway, across from the SS Library and temporary post office, and a 10 minute walk to the Metro station. Since there's quite a few people walking along the street, I didn't have an issue of safety. 5. Other - Having a package concierge locker was a huge plus! Since it's a mid-rise building, the elevator was always quick. There's a cleaning crew, even on weekends, to keep the place in shape, not like other buildings where they let the trash build up on those days. No issues with pests either, other than 1 or 2 bugs that came in when I left the window open. Here are some minor cons - 1. Amenities - Compared to one of their main competitor buildings in the area, the amenities spaces are not as big, so I think it somewhat limits the number of residents that can really take advantage of the space/resident events. However, they are still quite nice, and no amenity fee! 2. Price - It is just a tad pricey for the area, but they were offering a rent special when I moved in. If you're working in DC, I think you will find similar buildings for the same price. Therefore, you may want to be closer to where you work, along with the many events that are held in downtown DC. However, if you're working in the Maryland suburbs (White Oak, Laurel, Beltsville), then this area is a good option for the single/couple working professional. 3. Noise/Outside Light and Noise - This is not a high rise building, so it's not made of concrete. Therefore, inside noise will travel. I didn't have anyone living above me or next to me on 1 side of the wall, so that was good. However, the person living below me had their music turned on loud, so that was inconsiderate. And I did hear people say they can hear footsteps from above them. Residents just need to be mindful, and I think everyone will get along. Since you're living in an urban environment, there's a lot of outside light that shines in during the night. Therefore, invest in some heavy duty curtains to block that out. Windows blocked out most outside noise, but not all of it. Bottom line - If you're looking for an apartment in downtown Silver Spring, I highly recommend you take a look at this one. No apartment is perfect, so I wanted to give an overall 4.5 stars, but they don't give half a star as a choice. So, I rounded up to 5 stars, instead of rounding down because I thought 4 stars was a bit low. If I decide to move back to Silver Spring, I would want to be back in this building, as long as the rent doesn't get too high.
