WARNING: Stay away from the Winthrop, or any Bozzuto property. They have a predatory clause in their lease where, if you do not give them a 60-day notice that you are vacating the property, not only are you obligated to pay the rent for that time period, but they will also increase that amount to the month-to-month rate. My typical rent for my 2-bedroom was ~$2000/month, when they called me asking if I was leaving the property on the last day of my lease, they told me I was responsible for the next 60 days at ~$3500/month. Typically, notifying the leasing office that you are vacating is normal, but no one had reached out to me in regard to this. Their response as a "luxury" apartment complex was "we are not obligated to send you an email or call you, since it is in the lease" -- I found this especially insulting considering the fake guise of service they claim to uphold, when they did not even have the decency to reach out to me about this, especially during financially unstable and busy times (due to COVID-19, of course) TLRD: The Winthrop/Bozzuto uses predatory business practices with mediocre service

Winthrop Manager

Dear Kareem, I am sorry to hear that your experience here at Winthrop was not ideal and that there was confusion regarding the end of your lease and the amount of notice that is required. Here at Winthrop, all resident sign an identical lease in verbiage that outlines on Page 1 that we do require 60-days notice prior to the end of your lease regarding your intent to vacate. We send an identical lease in verbiage to be in compliance with Fair Housing. Our practice at Winthrop is we send a renewal letter roughly 75 days prior to a resident's lease end regarding their renewal options and to remind them that if they do wish to vacate Winthrop, 60 days notice is required. From our records, it looks like you were contacted a total of three times, dating back as early as 106 days prior to your lease end. Once again, we apologize if there was confusion with the lease, the renewal letter and the follow up correspondence that was sent to you regarding the appropriate notice period required per your lease. I would be happy to further discuss this situation with you. I can be reached at [email protected] to set up a date and time to have a telephone conference. Thank you again for being a valued resident of Winthrop and we wish you well with your future endeavors. Sincerely yours, Keshia Olden Property Manager
