Traver Knoll Apartments

I was spoiled by the previous management - Mike and Marie were the best team I have ever seen. The new folks are reasonably professional and attentive, however.

The good news is that the location is convenient and quiet, and the apartments are very spacious.

I loved the landscaping and environment, though unfortunately there is less wildlife to enjoy since the dogs entered the area. Some of the apartments are also only a two-minute walk away from the AATA bus stop.

Now, for the negatives...

Worst of all, my monthly rent has gone up nearly $200 since the new management company took over two years ago. I understand they need to furnish their office with nice things and buy white paint to pour over the basement floors for their 'renovations', but the apartments are no longer good value. If you're in a bind and can't find someplace else to live, this is a reasonable solution. There are certainly worse places to live in Ann Arbor. The rapid increases in cost of living without any real improvements in living conditions, however, left a bad taste in my mouth. I'm breaking my lease this summer and moving about a mile further away from campus.

There are other minor issues to be aware of. First, the train can be loud. I got used to it, but it can bother some people.

There were no dogs allowed when I moved in, and now there are many. A few enjoy marking their territory near the door I use every day. During the winter, it seems that some dog owners seemed to stop picking up after their pets due to the cold weather.

The walls/ceiling are not a huge problem but they are thin enough that I would recommend an upstairs apartment if possible. I used to live in one of the first floor units and was occasionally bothered by an upstairs neighbor who seemed to wear heavy boots around the house and invited... noisy... entertainment at night. I've lived in four apartments in my life and I would say this one was average or slightly below-average in terms of quality of construction/privacy.
