I share an earlier poster's concern about the recent series of positive reviews, but was only moved to chime in when I saw one that seemed to indicate that the complex's pool was new top to bottom and a genuine Ann Arbor "hidden treasure." The pool's fine. The apartments are, more or less, okay. So let's be fair about a couple of things:
1) As the earlier poster mentioned, you will get mildew along exterior walls, particularly if you're in a corner unit. This is exacerbated by the crappy aluminum windows, but not limited to them; I got mildew last winter in a bedroom in the opposite corner from the window as well.
2) The amount of light can be absolutely abysmal depending on where your unit is located; even if you're facing south, be aware that there is just not a lot of window space relative to the square footage of the units, particularly with larger floor plans.
3) While I understand that management is, after all, conducting a business here, the way they've conducted themselves with respect to rent increases is embarrassing. As the same earlier poster described, they split a fairly large rent increase between base rent and a "utility fee"; for their explanation that they're being forced into the utility fee by energy prices to make any sense, you'd have to believe that they were previously including free heat and gas out of the kindness of their heart. Err, no.
4) Included appliances are somewhat unreliable, and the laundry room recently managed to infuse my clothes with the smell of gasoline (which mercifully came out at the laundromat). Fit and finish for cabinets, tile and bath are at or well below par for an older building. Rather than re-tile our shower, they apparently just painted the entire thing with white paint, and now I can't hang a shower caddy in there since the suction cups don't work.
Overall, this isn't a terrible place (and the maintenance crew are pretty much excellent if overworked), but it was exceptionally overpriced and I would not have extended my lease if I weren't planning on being out of my graduate program by then. I feel bad for the longer-term residents who were taken advantage of by these rent shenanigans and management's own short-sighted and ineffective business plan.
