Bloomfield Place Apartments

My wife and I have been living at Bloomfield Place for over 2 years, while this place is hands down a significant improvement over our last, the cost of rent is quickly becoming ridiculous. It started out as $660/month for a 750 sqft apartment, and has since risen to $735/month upon renewing our contract for a 2nd time (it was 715 last year). Maintenance is good, but they need more workers, there's only a few people for easily over 100 units, and the guys have a hard time keeping up once it starts snowing. The landscaping and snow removal is very well done and prompt, so it's a beautiful complex, but this is sullied by the noise. While the easy access to US-24 is nice, it's also horrible, there's always traffic noise, and emergency vehicles regularly drive past, sirens blaring. On top of that, there seems to be a lack of noise insulation, as I hear our neighbors talking semi-regularly, and our neighbor's subwoofer is often loud enough to hear over our own tv, but management "can't do anything because it's outside of the 'quiet times' (aka, before 10pm)" There's usually more than enough parking, but there are no working parking lot lights aside from those over the entrances. Most, if not all, of the non-ground level units have 2 sliding glass doors to their tiny patio/balcony, both of which are horrible at keeping the heat in. The staff are very helpful and nice to work with, as long as you are nice, too. I can't complain about my interactions with the office at all. Until today, my concerns about safety were minimal, only the occasional cop car in the parking lot, usually monitoring the cars coming in and out. Before yesterday, the worst I was aware of was one resident in our building was wanted for polygamy. Possibly a few domestic disturbances in other buildings. But last night, a resident shot (in the hand, non-fatally) one of two intruders who forced their way into his home and demanded money. Not feeling quite so secure now. That said, this is extremely out of the ordinary, typically the worst is someone setting off their own car alarm. Overall, and with all that said, they are above average in most areas, and are far and away better than the other complexes in the area, despite the high rent and recent incident. I would recommend them when compared to their local competition, but I'm sure there are better apartments within reasonable distance.
