Vs. Everybody

Resident 2013 - 2015

7/6/2015

I've lived in Cadillac Square for close to 2 years; moved down for work (a block away) and truly enjoyed the convenience and downtown experience. I'd held off on giving this place a bad review, because I was willing to concede some things, but as I look for my new place, stressed by waiting lists... I can't hold off anymore. Pros: *Convenience - All around convenience. It's a block away from Campus Martius; gorgeous in the winter and fun in the summer. There's a diner off the lobby (the food is actually pretty good), and an attached convenience store. *Price - You won't find anything comparable near the Central Business District. Or even midtown for that matter. $721 per month which includes all utilities. Meanwhile I'm looking at other 1 Bedrooms in the area for $1495 with no utilities. *People - This is a hit or a miss if you include folks outside the building. But there really are a lot of nice friendly people who live here. *High Ceilings. (personal preference, but they make the small space feel much bigger) Cons: *Sigh* *It's an older building - so some of this was to be expected. The elevators are small, they could stand to lay new carpet and throw some paint on the wall other than that ugly antique cream color. The visuals of this place are just not great. *Bathroom - Again.. It's old, but the water pressure and temperature are SO inconsistent you could end up with third degree burns in the shower if you aren't careful. *That convenience store listed as a pro, also draws in the neighborhood alcoholics. They're harmless enough, but between and them and your regular city bums, It's... interesting. **BUGS*** This is the reason I'm moving. In what has seemingly gotten worse over the past year, the building has Waterbugs (A waterbug looks like a roach, I'm not sure that they are any different.. But waterbugs are what they're being called) I saw maybe one or two the first year I lived there. Immediately had them send an exterminator and I was alright. Well this summer those disgusting things and tried to ruin my life. I've seen at least a dozen in the last month and it's SO DISGUSTING. I can't deal, and that's what did it for me. This is apparently a known thing. They have a list that they add you to for when the exterminator comes back out, there's no real concern or disgust when you bring it up, and I've turned into a paranoid freak who thinks everything out of the corner of my eye is a giant bug. If I could break my lease I would, but for now I'm looking.
