Resident 2013 - 2014

5/17/2014

I'm not sure if apartment ratings has a character limit but I might reach it because there are so many problems with this place. Where do I start? 1) ROACHES - the walls are leaking somewhere and nothing is sealed well so the bugs get in everywhere. We have put in multiple requests for exterminators and all they do is put down ant traps. We have had to purchase our own bug bombs multiple times. 2) ELEVATORS - there are 3 elevators. Since I moved in a year ago, only 2 of them have worked. The management and owners constantly say they will be fixed soon but can never give you a date and never show any progress. On top of that, they are doing remodeling on the top floors so one elevator is always in use by the contractors. Sometimes none of the elevators work. More than once there have been fires, where elderly residents have had to be CARRIED down the stairs because the elevators were not able to be used. 3) PARKING LOT - a) we had record snow this winter (93 inches if you can't remember!!) and they plowed the parking lot twice the whole winter. I had to call AAA to pull my car out of the lot. However, the lot that the managers parked in was always cleared. I would see residents get stuck in the snow and the managers would sit inside watching them while other residents helped pull them out. b) the gate occasionally does not work, as well as the lights. There have been purse jackings, etc quite frequently because the security guards don't pay attention. c) people park in spots that you are not supposed to park, so the cars parked properly cannot get out. While management implemented a permit policy, they do not follow it and do not tow people parked illegally. 4) MAINTENANCE- every request is like pulling wisdom teeth without anesthetic. The plug in our bathroom sink didn't work and we asked multiple times to get a new one. They finally replaced it -- how? They pulled out the metal plunger and put a rubber circle over it. One time the bathroom above us leaked and our sink fell through (about 1.5 feet in diameter) into our bathtub. Luckily no one was showering. To fix it, they just patched the hole but not the leak so obviously it happened again. To which they responded by again patching the hole but not the leak. The third time was the charm. 5) MANAGEMENT - overall, they are extremely lazy. Stephanie is okay and I haven't had much interaction with Mike but the other lady (name starts with an N.... Naisha maybe?) is SO LAZY. The dryer ate my quarters so I informed her and she told me that she couldn't give me my money (BTW $3.00 for laundry that doesn't even dry all the way) and she told ME to call the machine company to report it. Correct me if I'm wrong but isn't it her job to call them???? That is what management is for. But she can't even apologize for it not working. I don't have anything against the other two personally but avoid dealing with her if possible. 6) COMMUNICATION - aside from generally poor customer service, they are very bad at communicating with their residents about work that will be going on. They say the water will be out for "a few hours" starting at 11PM and it's still not on at 10 the next morning. The internet will just stop working and they won't deal with it even if it's a building-wide issue. They will turn the power, water, elevators, etc off and not notify anyone, then post a flyer saying that they won't be working AFTER THE WORK HAS ALREADY STARTED. They expect every penny from you on time but o not give you the same courtesy of response about where your money is going. 7) SAFETY - I am a small white girl. Generally I feel safe here but there are occasions that I definitely don't. Contractors, maintenance folks, and other strangers have walked into my apartment so I always feel the need to lock my door. More than one older resident has made inappropriate comments to me that I've had to get nasty about. The lights in the stairs are not always on. I am not so much afraid of the people though as I am of the building collapsing in on itself. Walking through the lobby you can see so many water damaged tiles from the pipes leaking. The sprinklers on sone of the floors do not work I would not be surprised if there were more than a handful of illegal safety hazards. Overall, for Detroit, you could get a LOT more for this price. Plus they are raising the rent $200. Everyone is moving out, I am not the only one. No one thinks it is worth it to stay here. I doubt they will be in operation for more than 3 more years.
