Resident • 1999 - 2000 Not Recommended
I lived in lafayette Towers in 1999-2000. I stayed in a studio apartment on he twelfth floor with a great view of downtown Detroit, the Detroit River, and Canada. Management was good when I was there. Parking was controlled by security, so I felt reasonably comfortable about parking my car. The building is access controlled, so I felt good and secure (If you had cable you could turn to channel 9 on your tv and see who was dialing your apartment to visit you) plus they had a security officer on duty 24/7. The reasons I say I wouldn't rent from this property again are....In the winter, the studio apartment gets REALLY cold. I had to sleep in my jogging pants, double socks, hoodie, and a couple of comforters. The heat was included, but really wasn't effective. I had to buy space heaters - which I think is ridiculous. Also, my electric bills were always astronomical...imagine a $300.00 electric bill for a studio apartment, and then being told it was because I used my air conditioner so much probably. All in all, my experience was not that bad...I mean rent was only $495.00, but even still, I always want the best for myself. The apts are quiet and if nothing else you can always watch the fireworks from your apartment on the 4rth of July. Go figure.....
