Resident • 2012 - 2014
I absolutely love living here at River Place but unfortunately they are increasing the rent next year and I can no longer afford it. I honestly don't think that 2 months is enough time to notify a resident that their rent will be increasing almost $300. Last year our rent went up about $8 so we were expecting something similar in cost. But now we are being forced out of our home that we have loved for the past 2 years and have no idea as to why the increase is so much. Our Penthouse apartment has not been renovated and we have had issues with the heat and hot water not working on more than one occasion. Thus, I find it hard to understand why I should pay almost $300 more monthly when there is nothing new being offered to me. I completely understand that you get what you pay for, but until the units have hardwood floors, granite counter tops, and stainless steel appliances, I don't believe that $1400+ a month is warranted. Especially since there are places closer to the heart of Downtown Detroit that offer these amenities for that same price AND offer an incentive for people who work/live downtown.
