Resident 1999 - 2012

1/31/2012

I've lived at Hiddentree for 19 years and I love it! It's located in a quiet residential area of East Lansing, with very easy access from the streets. It's convenient to shopping and is on a major bus line. The office staff has always been friendly, helpful and very responsive to my needs, and the knowledgeable maintenance staff has always immediately fixed anything I've ever reported. I feel very well cared for by the staff. The grounds are beautiful, well lit and well kept--I was initially attracted to Hiddentree by the lovely pines throughout the complex. There's lots of parking for visitors. Residents can rent their own carports or park free in front of their buildings. Cats and small dogs are allowed (pet rent is charged). I've been very lucky and have had excellent, quiet neighbors for most of the 19 years I've rented here (quiet meaning "like a tomb"). (If you're living near students, your experience may be different!) There is traffic noise where I live--right on Harrison and Saginaw--but further inside the complex may be quieter in that respect. Many of my non-student neighbors stay for a few years or longer. Each 4-apartment block has a nice laundry room and each resident has free storage space assigned in the basement. A cleaning crew regularly cleans the foyer and the laundry room. There are plenty of dumpsters with regular, dependable trash pickup. Cons: I generally feel safe here, but unfortunately we had a robbery in my building last year. It appears someone came in off the street and stole stuff from my storage unit (both the front door and the storage unit were unlocked). After that, we make very sure the security doors and closed and locked at all times, and that the storage units are all locked. Moral of the story: use common sense, be vigilant and keep your doors locked. I like the layout of my apartment, except for the baseboard heaters that run along several walls and make it hard to arrange furniture. Once years ago the basement flooded and some stuff that wasn't up off the floor was ruined, so be sure to elevate stuff in the storage unit, like on pallets. That said--overall, Hiddentree is one of the best places I've ever lived, and I don't plan to leave any time soon!
