Resident 2011 - 2013

2/8/2013

We were drawn to this place because it looks unique, each apartment has its own outside access, and it seemed quiet compared to other apartment complexes in East Lansing. While the party scene doesn't exist here (you won't find a lot of loud students partying and being obnoxious outside), there are other problems: 1. Poor construction. The buildings are poorly insulated. In the wintertime, it's extremely drafty. We cover our windows with plastic and our heating bills are still quite high. I can literally feel a cold breeze both under the door and from the furnace vent. Additionally, we can hear everything in all the apartments around us because the walls are so thin (see #4). 2. Poor groundskeeping. While management keeps up with mowing, it does a very poor job shoveling snow in the winter. After a recent snowstorm, it was mid-afternoon the next day before the sidewalk was shoveled. 3. Maintenance (or lack thereof). We have had hit-or-miss luck with maintenance. Sometimes they come right away when we have a problem; other times, we have filed a report and they NEVER addressed the problem. For example, during a rainstorm, a seal on our window broke and there was water dripping INTO OUR APARTMENT. We reported the issue, saying we needed either a repair or a new window (which, to me sounds like a PRETTY BIG DEAL), and it was never fixed! 4. Pet policy (or lack thereof). Our upstairs neighbors have always been loud. However, once they got a dog it got worse. The dog is probably about 50 pounds, and we hear constant running, trampling, rumbling, and banging around. They wake me up literally every night when they're simply letting the dog out. I asked the front office about pet policies, and it turns out don't have any. Most complexes limit breeds or limit pet ownership to the first floor. 5. Workout facilities: when we moved in, we had no idea there was a workout facility until a few months later when we happened to see a sign for it. We asked for the code to get in and were extremely disappointed. The "workout facility" is in an apartment that still has a kitchen (seems haphazardly put together). It consists of a couple ellipticals, a couple treadmills, and some weight lifting equipment. Our luck has not been good with the machines. At least one is broken every time I go there. The only good things I have to say about this apartment complex are that it's in a relatively good location, there is plenty of parking, and the staff is at least friendly (even though they're not helpful). I would not recommend living here. Save your money and your sanity and go somewhere else.
