I was a resident here for a year and half. Never had a problem until I subleased my apartment and then I found out just how this place does not follow Michigan Landlord/Tenant Law. -------- in the office is great, she is very helpful, but the manager(------) is another story. She offered me my apartment back on a Friday(nice offer considering I was on the lease-such a favor huh?) since my sub-leaser decided to move out before the lease ended. However by the time Wednesday came, she informs me that management has taken possession and I can re-apply again. Really? Big change From Friday's offer to Wednesday's-considering that the office had been closed for the holiday! And, I only find this out because I had to contact corporate management because ------, the manager, did not respond to my emails on Tuesday(the first open day after the holiday) and when I called to ask if the sub-letter did pay for June, I was given outright refusal to that information and told to call corporate. That sort of tactic puts a lease holder at risk of late fees and court drama, which I obviously wanted to avoid and pay the rent and take my apartment back if the sub-leaser bailed. My advice, don't expect too much from them for following law. My situation showed obvious disregard for my legal rights and responsibilities set forth in Landlord/Tenant law and their very own lease contract. Save yourself the hassle, find someplace that treats residents respectfully. Because no where have I ever heard a leasing office staff that provide a customer service and wants to retain good tenants tell someone that they contract with that "they spend too much time on them". That would be understandable if the tenants defaulted on rent, but I always paid my rent on time. I wonder how that would feel if they were my patient and I was their nurse and I said that too them? Goes to show you how unprofessional a couple of them in the office conduct themselves.
