Resident 2010 - 2012

6/1/2012

Overall, I had a great experience here. I had a 1 bedroom on the first/basement floor. The good: Size: I didn't have any trouble comfortably living with a full size couch, queen bed, large desk, etc. Room size is great. Storage: Closets for days...I have 4 full size closets in my 1 bedroom. Location: It never took me more than 15 minutes to make it to the Law Building on MSU's campus, and that was with traffic. Parking: Covered for no extra cost. Need I say more? You'll love not having to clean your car off. Maintenance: I never had to wait more than a day for maintenance to come, and any issues I had were minor. Appliances were a bit dated, but worked perfectly. I did have my dishwasher replaced when it malfunctioned, no questions asked. The place was really well maintained, and the maintenance workers were always very friendly. I felt comfortable with them coming in. Security: You're mostly dealing with families and grad students here. Parties and noise were kept to a minimum, and any problem-tenants seem to have been dealt with in a hurry. Staff: Friendly and helpful...if you're good to them, they'll be good to you, so treat them with respect. Caveat emptor: Noise: I couldn't hear my neighbors next door, but I was an active participant in the daily lives of my upstairs neighbors. I could hear talking/snoring/kids, but the main problem was that the ceiling popped and creaked so badly, I thought the whole house was going to come down on me. There's nothing the company can do about that, but it got to the point where I wouldn't have re-signed this particular apartment. Insects and arachnids: ...they occasionally made an appearance. I had spiders, and those disgusting house centipedes. There's not much you can do about it besides learn not to scream and panic when they march across the kitchen floor. Another reason I wouldn't lease this particular unit again...I didn't have ant colonies moving in, but those centipedes were enough to give anyone nightmares. Laundry: One washer and dryer per building...if your neighbors are jerks, this will be a problem. If your neighbors are cool, you'll be fine. It's a gamble, but at least they always worked properly. It's expensive, though: $2.00 a load. Electric bill: Summer is fine, winter is a nightmare. Heat is NOT free, and my bill was obscene during the winter months. Be prepared to turn on the heat and pay dearly for the privilege. Bus: The route sends you to campus via the Northwest Territories...it's such a pain, I never once bothered. Bathroom: Leave the door open when you shower. The exhaust fan is worth exactly two you-know-whats, and they openly told me mold will grow if the door isn't left open. Price: It's pricey, but it was worth it to have the office/den space.
