Foxpointe is the worst apartment complex I've ever lived at. I don't mind the freeway noise or the people who kept stealing my garbage can or the lack of landscape maintenance or the crumbling bricks falling off the front of my unit. I was starting to get uneasy when a man tried to break in during the day while my wife and daughter were home and when a new neighbor moved in who let his dog poop all over my grass so I couldn't let my daughter play there anymore. But I think what took the cake though was when I decided to move out. I notified Foxpoint in writing, per the contract, and was out by the specified date. After this came a bill from Foxpoint for over $5K. Although they said nothing when I discussed the move in person and did not respond to the required notice I sent in writing, they later claimed I moved out too soon (not true). Strangely, they wanted damages for breaking the lease, but also wanted payment of the last month's rent (which I had already paid). I said, "well if I really owe you the last month's rent and pay it, then I wouldn't be in breach of contract, so which are you actually claiming here - damages or rent?" But it didn't stop there. They invented some other breach of contract and claimed thereby I also must forfeit my $500 deposit. They then claimed they had to get the apartment ready for the next tenant - painting, carpet cleaning, mopping floors, etc. - standard stuff if you ask me (plus I didn't paint even 1 wall while I lived there) - and they wanted to charge me for it. Thousands of dollars. Maybe they wanted to finance some new appliances for the place. So my advice to you is this: if you don't live there, go look somewhere else; if you already live there, don't you dare leave unless you painstakingly document everything and plan your escape with your attorney.
