Resident 2009 - 2012

7/3/2012

The staff at Spring Valley is incredibly nice. The young women in the office are always very polite, and the maintenance guys are helpful. They also go out of their way to organize monthly events for residents, allowing you to have a little fun and get to know your neighbors. I also really liked the private entrance, and the fact that I wasn't backing up to another apartment. The majority of the time, my apartment was very quiet -- only occasional (normal) apartment noise. I had a ground floor unit, and it tended to stay quite cool. I did need to run my AC, but not as much as I have in other homes. One other important benefit is that the property is pet friendly -- up to two animals are allowed, with a pet deposit and monthly pet rent. For the most part, residents do pick up after their pets, making this an ideal place to live for a pet owner. That said, the apartments themselves need quite a bit of TLC. The appliances are very old, the linoleum in the kitchen is stained and has cuts, and the kitchen cabinets looked ready to come off the wall. I also had numerous water issues with broken and leaky pipes, and the apartments are a bit drafty (if you live here, you will want to put plastic on your windows in the winter). The kitchen has very minimal counter space; invest in a shelving unit for your front hall closet so you have adequate storage for kitchen extras. The complex has been doing quite a bit of remodeling and improvements to the grounds. There are new bushes and shrubs, as well as new driveways and sidewalks. I also understand the complex is updating the workout room and community room. These do need updating, but in my humble opinion, I wish the money would be spent instead on improvements to apartments. Finally, do note that rent can increase dramatically if you stay here for several years. After talking to friends, I understand this may be the norm for the general area, but my rent increased by more than $300 in 3 years. While the initial rent rate was great, the value just wasn't there once it was increased so much, especially since the appliances and such were in such old, poor condition. Overall, I would recommend this complex, but be aware of some of the drawbacks before moving in. Good people, but not the greatest apartment interiors.
