Resident 2007 - 2009

5/10/2009

My family and I were here for two years and for the most part enjoyed our stay. These are NOT luxury apartments by far but we got a good move-in deal and a low deposit so it worked for us. About 3/4 of the office staff are b****** and tough to deal with but the others aren't bad. I don't care if you don't like your crappy job, don't take it out on me. They were not very flexible at all when it came to extending your lease short term so BE VERY CAREFULL. It cost us full rent (>$1000) PLUS an extra $150.00 a month to extend our lease by two months. As we didn't want to sign another year lease we had no choice but to pay it. Apparently there is some law that states they CAN charge that in Michigan so be carefull that you don't have to extend your lease for a short amount of time. In addition, if we were to stay longer it would have been 60/day after the lease. Also, as for the quality of the apartment, it was NOT impressive at all. When we moved in it was into the brand new building, no one had ever lived in our apartment. However, look at the construction when you do the tour. The toilet seats were never stable, the blinds to the porch break constantly, the blinds in the bedrooms bend easily (all of which you will pay for). Look at the metal casings around the sprinkler nozzels in the apartment as well. You will notice that most of them are never seated against the sheetrock and are actually hanging from the wall. Also, if your concerned, pull off a bathroom vent and see the crappy cutting of the sheetrock for yourself. The maintanence gentleman was helpfull and efficient. Also, be carefull when moving out. We called the office for a courtesy walk-through as they usually do it AFTER a person has left (also a red-flag). However, they never showed up for us and the maintenance man had to do it. Another red-flag---when we called the office to ask if we would be billed for anything we were asked about the crisper cover in the fridge. We were told that if that was broken then we would have to pay for it. We felt that that was an odd question and knew immediately that they must have had lots of problems with them in the past. Having not ever remembered dropping anything on it I checked it immediately after the phone call to discover there was a one inch crack in. We never knew it was cracked in the past. From the sounds of it this happens a lot with these refridgerators and is not uncommon (especially if they are asking about it over the phone). Sure enough, it will cost $60.00 to have replaced. Another poor quality spot. Also, ask about occupancy and turn-over. In the two years that I was there we have seen everyone but one apartment vacate in our building. That's no unusual as the other buildings are the same way. We see moving trucks there all the time (not moving in but out). Don't let them tell you that it's tough to get you in either, that's BS. We were never told that but one of our friends felt pressured when he looked at the places. If that's the case....move on.
