Resident • 2018 - 2019 Not Recommended
Run far away, and run fast. These people do not care about you and will grind you down to the teeth very every penny they can squeeze out of you. Don't be fooled by the initially glamorous looking apartments with their "renovated" kitchens. Back-splashes on the "Remodeled" kitchens are made of plastic and WILL rip. The kitchens are refurnished as cheaply as possible with low-end stoves and hastily made counter tops that are unstable and prone to break or shift with little effort. NO WARNINGS ARE GIVEN FOR VIOLATIONS. It is recommended to read the terms of agreement like the bible because you will be fined for everything they can squeeze from you, whether that's patio furniture or a grill sat outside your apartment. Our neighbors had a grill outside of their apartment for less than a week, on their OWN patio, did not even use it and were fined $2,500. Staff are unfriendly, unhelpful, and it is impossible to get into the fitness center they so proudly boast on their website unless you pay $100 for a key fob to get in and out of the hall after hours if, you know, you work 40 hours a week 9-5 like everyone else on the planet. The pool was always disgusting and had some manner of debris around it, it's right off the main highways and while bus access is convenient, the posted signs declare you MUST move at a top speed of 5mph that absolutely no one obeys---because if you did, you'd take an entire hour to move around the complex. Inspections WILL happen, With short notice, and will be extremely threatening with charging you for not moving ALL your furniture 3 ft from the walls for testing. The last one threatened to leave a $250 fine for anyone unable to fulfill this, and if you have full-sized furniture--- i.e. a queen sized bed, a loveseat, a couch, entertainment system -- it is IMPOSSIBLE to move your items away from the walls far enough to do this. Even worse, when the inspection DOES happen, it's conducted by the most rude individuals possible who will be snide to you the entire time they inspect your own living space. As if that wasn't bad enough, the apartment requests you leave your pets in cages for the entire duration of EIGHT HOURS the inspections will be taking place over. Think about that, that is eight hours of your cats or dogs sitting indoors in small cages without access to their litter boxes or going outside for potty breaks. The inspection itself does not last this long but the request is that you do this for the entire day for when they come in. The walls are thin and you will be hearing your neighbors shouting at their kids next door or someone vacuuming their carpets at 1am. The structural quality of the buildings are secure with the brick but the windows are only single pane, meaning during the winter you're going to have to put plastic on your windows or invest in some HEAVY curtains to keep Michigan's extreme cold out. The amount of times the boiler went down over the winter were numerous and left me and my roommates shivering and reaching for the blankets. We're all adults but I can't even imagine how terrible it would be if you had children and there was no heat in your apartment with windows that do NOTHING to keep the cold out. I will not be renewing my lease for this apartment and make sure to tell anyone I know that could be considering living here to stay as far away from it as possible.
