Resident 2014 - 2016

6/20/2016

Honestly, you have to live here to understand how loud it is. The walls and floors/ceiling are paper thin, to the point where I could tell exactly which of my neighbors were walking up the stairs to the second floor when I was in my bedroom on the opposite side of the building with the door closed. You will hear your upstairs neighbors' bowel movements. You will hear people having sex. You will be able to tell when your next door neighbor is smoking weed because you can hear the bubbling of his bong. I have lived here for two years and am counting down the days and minutes until my lease is up because I have developed anxiety as a result of the constant noise in my apartment! My friends and family won't visit me here anymore because they can't take the noise, either. Noise aside, the complex isn't terrible - the location can't be beat, and the area is safe (it shares land with a retirement community). The apartment manager, -----, is very agreeable and does live in the complex now. Maintenance, however, is stretched thin across several complexes, so it will take days, maybe even weeks, to get repairs done. We had to wait weeks for them to come fix the water that poured out of our bathroom fan (upstairs neighbors left their tap running and flooded the bathroom) - that was six months ago, and we still have a gaping hole in our ceiling. Plowing is not as quick or efficient as I would have liked, and there are some totally useless, massive speed bumps in the parking lot that cracked the gas line in my car (too low to clear them), which cost me $600 to repair. The people here are either really nice, upstanding people or trailer trash - no in between. (As an example, my neighbors across the hall were evicted last year for too many domestic violence calls and having two unauthorized pit bulls.) The communal washer is constantly full of lint and gunk from other people's dirty clothes, and no one ever empties the lint trap in the dryer, so it's a fire waiting to happen. Also, the only cable and internet provider you can get is Charter, who will gouge you because they have a monopoly. Overall, I would say this isn't a terrible place to live if it's temporary (graduate student, military posting, etc.) and if you get a top floor unit, but sign the lease with your eyes wide open (and your pocket full of earplugs).
