Resident ā€¢ 2012 - 2013

12/22/2013

I have loved living at Motor Wheel Lofts. Even the smallest units are still very large one bedrooms with new appliances, updated kitchens, washer dryer, and a very cool industrial loft feel. I don't think they are any more expensive than comparable apartments in the area and I thought my apt was a great value. I have lived at MWL for over one year and have literally only had noise issues twice. I find it incredibly quiet-- the walls are really thick and I think that makes a big difference. My view is amazing, there are huge, bright windows and I love looking out over the factory warehouse and to the MWL smokestack. I had some heat issues recently, but those were fixed right away when I brought them to maintenance's attention. I would note to potential renters that because this is an old factory the concrete floors are not very cozy and sometimes the apt feels hard to heat. Even though this is an old factory, I have never had a mouse or roach in my apartment. There is a small, but nice gym that the owners keep upgrading. I really liked the convenience of having a gym right downstairs and there are enough machines that you could use this as your primary gym if you wanted. As far as maintenance goes, I've only had good experiences. The maintenance staff is extremely responsive and fast. They were very flexible and performed additional tasks that I requested at the last minute. The underground, heated parking garage is amazing for Michigan winters and a huge plus! Yes, you do have to pay extra per month, but I found it totally worth it. The building is very pet friendly which is nice too. The only downside I really can think of is yes, it is true that a train goes by multiple times a day with a very loud horn. My apartment was in the middle of the building and while I notice the train in my living room, it almost never bothers me while I am sleeping in my bedroom. I would encourage potential renters to take note of where the train tracks are in relation to your prospective apartment and make sure they are not directly below. If the tracks are not right outside your window, I would not worry. The location isn't bad either. I loved living just a few blocks from the Lansing River trail which is wonderful for outdoor biking and running. You can walk to downtown Lansing, to the Lugnuts stadium, and to Old Town. MWL itself isn't located in a very nice immediate area, but I've never felt concerned about my safety. I think this is the best apartment in Lansing/East Lansing by far, and I would especially encourage graduate students and young professionals to rent here!
