I write this review after moving from what I refer to as Hell... Regal Towers. I never took the time to look around at other apartments; I chose the first one I walked in to. My bad. Back story: I went through a divorce and needed a place to stay quickly and wanted it close to where I work. I hadn't been in an apartment since college over thirty years ago so I didn't know the difference between a good place and a horrible one. My head was spinning from my separation and when I walked into Regal Towers and paid them for 6-months rent in advance. BAD MOVE. I won't go into how horrible my experience was there with bad management and maintenance, K-9 dogs marching through the halls, the smell of pot throughout my building, the 18-wheelers they allow to park in the lot that cycle there engines throughout the night or the bed bugs that infested my place after my next door neighbor had them and the management didn't take any preventative measures to protect those of us in the surrounding apartments. This is a review about my new place. A place I'm HAPPY to call home and suggest you put 12 North on your radar if you are looking for a nice place to live. 12 North is a 12-story building managed by Dawn. Mallory also works with Dawn and together they manage this place like they live here... and guess what? They do. It makes a huge difference. Rudy is the on-site Maintenance Manager and is not only talented at what he does but a really nice guy as well. Some apartments talk about community, here at 12 North we actually are a community. Everyone I have met here in the elevators and hallways couldn't be nicer and neighbors are very courteous of each other. Some residents I've met have lived here for 10 20-years! There is a good mix of young adults attending Lawrence Tech, families and some seniors. Dawn and Mallory have fun events such as holiday parties, Summer BBQ s, Ice Cream Socials, Bingo Nights and more. (I've got a few more years to go before I start attending Bingo nights.) The management is super friendly, accessible and gets maintenance issues taken care of a quickly as possible. What's not to love? As far as amenities and location, 12 North has you covered. Covered parking, an adequate fitness club with free weights, a multi-purpose weight machine, treadmills elliptical and more. A vending room with drinks, snacks and ice cream machine is also available 24/7. And for sun worshipers, a nice pool is available during the summer. The location at 12 Mile Rd and Northwestern Hwy is perfectly located. Expressways are right around the corner. Great restaurants as well as fast food establishments and a Star Theater are within walking distance. Walgreens and CVS Pharmacy are right across the street and Meijer and a ton or other stores are two miles away on Telegraph Rd. Orchard Lake Road in West Bloomfield is just a few miles up Northwestern Hwy and Birmingham, Ferndale Berkley and Royal Oak are only 10-minutes away. You can hop on the expressway and be downtown Detroit in about 15-minutes. I guess that's why they call Southfield The Center of It All . In closing, I guess you can tell by the length of my review, I like this place. Don't do what I did and select the first place you look at. Check out many places and consider all options to make sure you find the right fit for you. Once you do your due diligence and weigh out what you'd be getting at other places for the price they're asking vs. what you'll be paying here, I think you'll make the same choice I did. In my opinion, 12 North is the best value in this area and a very nice and safe place to call home. Good luck with your apartment search. If you choose to live here, I'm sure I ll see you around the pool in the summer or at one of our community events. I wish you the very best!- Steve
