The staff here are great. We really feel at home here. Our neighbors help each other out in practical ways. We look out for each other. Home is what you make it, and we were welcomed with open arms. My husband and I highly recommend this complex.

Apartments are nice, however you practically have to pull teeth if you need any repairs done w/in your apartment it may take anywhere from 2weeks to 2months for a repair. I wrote this review for this very reason! I put in a order to have my refrigerator fixed 2 months ago and it's still not fixed and probably won't be until it actually goes out! And while heat is free, temp is regulated to a low setting. Oh and watch out for the geese poop everywhere.

I recently moved to the area from Royal Oak for a job at the University of Michigan. I haven't been to this side of town before and was pleasantly surprised when I moved out here. My apartment is snuggled away in the back of the community by the pond, which is pretty nice. The neighbors are quiet and stick to themselves which is a plus. The rental rates are extremely low compared to other apartment communities plus, everything is included in the rent except electricity. Upon move in, the office staff was vey helpful in going over everything such as the move in costs, lease paperwork, etc. I really like it here so far and as long as everything keeps going well, I plan on re-signing my lease next fall. Pros: Close to Ann Arbor and Starbucks, accepting of pets Cons: No covered parking, no in unit washer and dryer I would recommend living here.

I moved to Maplewood Apartments (now Chestnut Lake) in 2010 to attend EMU. The maintenance and office staff back then were actually quite good. Whenever I needed maintenance , they were always readily available. The office staff were always helpful and respectful. Unfortunately things have gotten progressively gotten worse under new management. The office staff is rude and uncaring. What's worse is that someone lost my money order. Whenever I called to resolve the issue, I was told to speak with the manager. 'A manager' whose never returned my call and whose never EVER available. They recently made upgrades to the apartments, which were pretty nice. New cabinets, floors, a dishwasher, and locks for outside door (mind you, these locks do not work) . Despite this, office staff and management make the place unfavorable. I have since moved from the Maplewood (Now Chestnut Lake) but felt compelled to speak out.

I moved here the summer of 2012. The management and staff were great. By the end of the year, there was a completely new management and staff and that's when problems began. While the area is quiet and an overall nice place for the price, the complete incompetence of the staff is why I won't recommend living here. If you rent an apartment, you can be on the wait list for a townhouse. If you plan on waiting here until a townhouse opens up - go somewhere else. I spent 2 months trying to get an answer about where my family was on the wait list only to be told the list needed to be transferred from paper to the computer and there was no way they could get me the info. During that time, I asked to see the manager and left a note with the secretary once a week. It also took 2 months for the manager to respond only to tell me, "I never received your messages." Over a year later, they still can't give me any type of answer about the townhouse. Also, they installed security… See More>

So unprofessional! I believe the lady helping me name was katie or kate. She told me i had the apartment and had ne fax over all my income information and had my move in date set up and everything and then two days before i move in she tells me that i can not move there because i needed to have a recent landlord but whats crazy is the fact that she had my information 5mnths before telling me that and had ne complete the whole process.!!! I definately do not recomend living in such an unprofessional place.

                  I would recommend Maplewood

I've lived here a few years now, its had its ups and downs with the people in the community and office, I know some people have had issues, but their gone now. hopefully this new staff does things right, seems like they will. I would recommend Maplewood, it could be worse, I know they are trying to make sure it's safe out here, like fixing the doors - I'll be glad when that happens... i'll be at the resident meeting to talk about the things I would like to see happen here, we all have to pull together to make sure our community is safe and nice.

MANAGEMENT SUCKS!! KEEP DRIVING.. would NOT even suggest that you stop!!!

Nice size places for the price, but NOT WORTH IT for the hassle. UNFRIENDLY, UNPROFESSIONAL, UNORGANIZED or knowledgable staff. Maintenance conducts "inspections" whenever they choose, COINCIDENTALLY (if they know your car) when your never home.. Not even the worst part about it, is them SNOOPING through your belongings. Nothing like coming home to an inspection WITHOUT notice (or even a note) to find they've gone through ALL of YOUR stuff. Maintenance person KYLE IS THE WORST, talks to all residents in a condesending manner, RACIST and VERY RUDE with CLEARLY no professional training provided. Manager's change like the days of the week ALL OF THEM are ------, NEVER follow-up with residents and treat you like your a nuisance, when your the reason they have jobs!! FYI, two months ago they "lost" a residents rent payment and when it turned up.. we never saw that ------ manager again. Hmmmm...I wonder what happened??????? Guess they hire folks that like to pocket people's rent. Would never refer to anyone!! I would suggest you keep driving, SLEEPING OUTSIDE IS BETTER than renting from them!!

I'm glad people have been raising thesame concerns I have.

This is not a safe place to live because anyboody can walk into your building and straight to door at anytime of the day or night. The front door has no lock and the management doesn't care to put a lock; so that only the people living in the building can have access to the building. I have raised this issue several times; but up till now nothing is done to fix this problem. I hope someone can bring a big lawsuit against the management to force them to fix this problem. I cannot recomend this place for anybody unless this problem is fixed; despite the fact that I have lived here for ten years.

WARNING: No Controlled Access Doors...Homeless addicts sleeping in halls

PAST: This used to be a nice place to live. Many people had moved into townhomes and raised children, planted flowers, enjoyed the pool and the affordable rent. TODAY: This is now the only apartment community in the area that does not have locking entry doors to the buildings, and the homeless bums and crackheads all know it! This summer there has been some guys sleeping under the stairs in random buildings or in the laundry rooms. Weed and crack fumes proliferate the halls and many of the drug dealers sitting in the parking lots seem to have police scanners in their cars because when my neighbors call the cops the dealers tear off once the call goes out over the radio from dispatch. Not good. There have been 2 homicides in the last few years that I know of...some guy set a car on fire and himself in the process and jumped into the pond in the back...I think he died as well. The owners of this community maybe setting a presidence for liability suits if they do not modify these buildings and secure access to the hallways.

Only If You Have To - Be Legally Prepared

I moved to Maplewood because it was a good financial decision for my family AT THAT TIME. The management staff three years ago were often out reviewing the complex, preparing for inspections and keeping a good view of things going on (so it seemed). Over the time I spent there more drug users walked through using the laundry rooms and standing out after the office closed doing deals. Not nice, especially if you have children. My apartment was not updated before I moved in, but it looked clean. However the carpet was cheap and flyaway fibers were enough to be a health hazard, in my opinion. If anyone has health issues in the lungs that live there, it wouldn't be a bad idea to check the carpet as a culprit or menance. I was told at move in that though the check in inventory form says we have 7 days, they wanted it back in 3. THAT IS ILLEGAL. The form says 7 days, and each tenant has SEVEN days to do a thorough check of the apartment to the best of your busy move in ability if you choose to… See More>

This is a good place for a family

I recently moved from Maplewood Apartments due to job relocation, however, I enjoy the last two years that I resided there. Other's complain about management but that is because the manager runs a clean and fair office. There are a few maintenance issues but I have always been satisfied with the management of Maplewood Apartments.

Do not Move here!! Its Terrible!!

No do not stay here! Poor Maintenance. For the first year to a year and a half when they had different management the maintenance was excellent. They would fix things as needed, but after the new management everything changed. From themn on it was terrible. The maintenance takes forever to come out fix things. You will see them just strolling around the apartment complex doing nothing. There were cracks in the windows and bugs and bees get through the windows. After asking them to fix the windows a numerous amounts of times the windows never were repaired. The rent increases every 6-12mth only with a month notice, even when the management tell you that your rent is at Market rate rent and will not change. When you move out they will screw you on your down deposit by charging you large amounts for small things that was already damaged, but they will claim you did it. I suggest you live somewhere else. Not a good place to live!!!!

                                Nice Apt. HORRIBLE Management

The apartments here are nice, and spacious, however, since Tosha in the leasing office left it's went to hell. Mantanience takes their sweet time fixing units. Hunt (apt manager) is rude and not friendly. Rent goes up about every 6 months. Homeless people sleep in the hallways and laundry rooms.

Pros: adequate lit parking, security at night, laundry on site, Maplewood pays for heat & water, electric bill is cheap, close to EMU/WCC campus, some upgraded apartments, apertment is a comfortable size

Cons: neighbors (some) smoking marijuana, maintenance taking their time to fix these cheap fixtures, rent keeps raising (I thought this place was for those with low income), staff are always on leave or taking time off, bug problem (no roaches (luckily), but those bugs that ball up if you touch them, spiders, and box elder bugs), you have to call management to get someone to clean up the halls, after all they need to be cleaned once every 4 months

Management seems to take there time doing things here. The office staff is very rude and it seems they talk down to residents because of the subsidized living here. The office manager is the worst. She is loud and rude to customers. She sits and gossips with residents which causes confussion because if she doesn´t like you or is not friends with you then you have slim to no chance of getting things done there. She has her own personal conversations going on (during business hours) on the company phone so please PLEASE don´t disturb her while she is at WORK on the phone with her HUSBAND!!

Nice apartment, bad mgt, somewhat bad neighborhood

Nice size apartment for the price, but not managment doesn´t listen and is closed half the time. luckily haven´t had any major problems, but if I did, I´d have to move. Neighbors are nice and quiet, but lots of kids around who don´t pay attention to where they´re going. Had a murder in parking lot last year, but basically safe. I would recommend it, but I feel like I live in the ------ half the time. They keep raising the rent, too, and there´s nothing you can do about it.
