Resident 2014 - 2015

7/29/2015

my fiance and I lived there for 1 year, June 2014 - June 2015 in a third floor, 2 bdrm unit. Because of the sheer number of frustrating/upsetting occurrences, I'm going to continue this review in bullet point format -This should have been an indicator: there are 2 different models for 2 bdrm apt in the location, They gave us the wrong one and let us do a walk through the day before getting keys... the apartment was covered in dirt/dust, and empty food containers all over. (and it wasn't the apartment we signed lease for)... After an hour of convincing management we luckily got an apartment that opened up a few days earlier, but had to wait another few days till it got cleaned, pushing back our move-in until the next weekend - in that year of residence the elevator was shut down for maintenance +27 times, yes we started keeping count. (not 27 days, 27 times!!!) often sitting broken over the weekend, from friday morning until monday afternoon.. The weekend we intended to move out the elevator broke and was not fixed for 3 weeks while management was gone on vacation. This meant my furniture was stranded on the 3rd floor for several weeks until I could get outside help. -Office hours are erratic at best. the office hours change DAILY and even during listed office hours the office door is often closed or the phone goes w/o being picked up. -Office not reliable for package delivery. on several occasions I had packages delivered, received notification from UPS that it was delivered & signed for by office, only to have an office employee say I had no packages. Then they'd notify me two days later that I had a package that's been siting waiting for me... why not just check when I came in and asked? -they WILL modify your apartment w/o your acknowledgement. I came home one day to find they had installed reflective metallic plaques inside our apartment units with No-Smoking rules... its already a non-smoking residence so they seem redundant, as well they looked tacky and made our 'home' feel like a cheep motel... but on top of that mine was installed crooked, when I asked if I could fix it they said they'd fine me for tampering with it, and that they'd have maintenance come fix it. 4 months later I moved out and maintenance still hadn't fixed... -I was told after signing the lease that this was a mixed income building and that I "couldnt Tell" which residents were there on support, it may seem petty to some, but this is info I feel needs to be disclosed BEFORE I sign a lease. looking back I could easily tell who was there on wellfare or fixed income/assisted housing as they were the ones who usually caused the most observed issues to our stay below. -Noise. the buildings and units were made EXTREMELY cheaply, notice the inch and a half gap below every door. if (more like when) you hear children scream up/down the halls at 10pm sunday night, and you are in your bedroom you will hear it as if they were standing next to your bed. On the noise topic: note also there is NO noise curfew, meaning bass-filled music and many residents of a 'specific ethnic group' letting their children run and scream into the wee hours of night & harass/bother other residents and guests. -Complaints often go ignored by management: noise or general day-to-day often go ignored, maintenance take weeks to months to get any action. -vandalism and safety concerns. the keyless entry system fluxuates between letting EVERYONE in and not working for anyone with a key fab. because of this secure doors are frequently propped open or broken into. Not a safe environment... In addition the parking garage has no security doors to the inside of the building and was broken into 2 separate times in my year of residence. Because of the lower income availability there are also several incidents of shady characters lingering by entry-ways at night. -General disorder: halls, elevator, and common area cleanliness is poor at best, and there are several cases of the smell of cigarette and marijuana in the building reported monthly. -instead of targeting the offenders(vandalism/cleanliness), management often spikes everyone's rent after vandalism or uncleanliness w/o warning EVEN WHEN THE SPECIFIC OFFENDERS ARE REPORTED TO THE MANAGEMENT. beware that if you sign a lease for $1025/mo after 8 months you'll be paying around $1070/mo -still haven't seen/heard anything about my damage deposit being returned, its been around 40 days and my unit was cleaned immaculately and everything was in working order. Overall I thought that at the price I was paying I'd be moving into a safe/well kept, and respectful community. It was unfortunate to find that the other residents and management were below the standards I had when in cheap college apartments, the sheer level of disappointment and anger prevents me from recommending CloverField Marketplace to my worst enemies. If I could give it 0 stars I would.
