Resident 2016 - 2020

2/18/2020

I will not say "I love this community," but I will say that it is decent. Also, it's time for a new review of this place. I will start with the pros: Some of the units are spacious; Gas stove; Heat blows strong in Winter; every unit has a Patio/balcony; Volleyball sand pit; Tennis court, but no net so residents use it for whatever, including playing with their dogs; fire pit, but only at main building; Each building has a basic party room. Only the main building has a full party room with all appliances, but "only the office can use this one;" Knollwood Mall is across the street, with plenty of restaurants to choose from. There is also a strip with Target, Five Below, Dollar Tree, Advanced Auto (O'Reilly is the other direction, towards Excelsior Blvd.) and Aldi. They used to host events, but rarely do, now. There are two great parks within walking distance. Our favorite is Cottageville, but the kids prefer the closer park by Knollwood Towers for the sledding hill. The cons: Only a couple units have the half privacy fence for their patio, but I have been told they are the manager units; The residents are loud. It does not matter how many times you contact the office, they will tell you to call the on-call caretaker who does not do anything. There is one caretaker, a heavyset black girl, that has a nasty attitude when she has to respond to a call; The residents smoke cigarettes in the hallways, making others choke as they walk through it; The buildings are half way cleaned, if at all; Snow/ice removal in the winter is a joke; The company who plows leaves mounds of snow in front of the garages, so it is hard for you to get out; Adults AND children play on the tennis court, despite signs saying not to. Then again, the office does not install the net for tennis to be played; The police are always at one of the buildings for something or other, including to harass residents; The office is ALWAYS trying to shortcut and cheat repairs, it's not always the maintenance staff. I complained of mold and they came and sprayed over it; Due to the heat in Winter, the patio/balcony door will freeze shut with a thick layer of ice INSIDE, a fire hazard, but the office will tell you to thaw it with a hair dryer; It does not matter that you pay your rent on time, they will STILL INCREASE YOUR RENT at renewal, but give other tenants decreases to renew; When you question the rent increase, you are told "it's the market;" There is always at least one washer or dryer out of commission, but the office will be irritated if you inform them. They will bandage the problem until it breaks down again; It does not matter how long you rent, they will not upgrade your apartment or replace your carpet. They will give you every reason not to do so, but expect the rent; There is NO security. The one time I did see someone, it was a random guy that couldn't do any defending; The grass is cut by a landscaping company, but the rest of the property is not worth it. You will wonder what does your rent pay for. The carpet on the stairs has so much black tape to save them, it is embarrassing. They refuse to replace this, for some reason. If you are not going to invest into your property, do not increase rent. Period. Oh, since they started accepting Section 8? A lot more riff raff at the property. The smells are TERRIBLE. No, they are not from the Somalian/Ethiopian residents, either. Some of the white residents are rude as snot and will slam the main door in your fact, not holding it. I had one woman question my residency after closing the door and watching me use my key to enter. The Indian women who work in the office are very rude if you are not Indian. The staff are cool, but I would not trust them. They do National Night Out to benefit the police department. I love the event, but with today's world, hate the benefit. We should not benefit the same people who will kill our babies without a thought. If you are in a bind, sure, sign the six month lease and leave, like many others do. This property ALWAYS has at least 5 vacancies in every building, a very high turnover. I have heard about roaches in all three buildings from residents. I never had an issue with bugs or rodents, but I had some spiders. Some of your electrical outlets will not work, but they will not fix them. The buildings are super old and need a lot of work, but they won't do it. I know a resident that had a hole in their ceiling from upstairs flooding and the office refused to fix it. They finally did, after the city inspector was called. It is not worth your money to rent here. Find somewhere else.
