Resident 2013

6/20/2013

If you want to live in an inexpensive place that turns out to be a complete nightmare in every way possible, live here. On our initial viewing of the apartment, there were stains on the carpet and countertops; we were assured these would be taken care of by the time we moved in (about 3 weeks later). When we came back to sign the lease and have a pre-move in walkthrough, the stains had not been fixed at all. There were still there. The only thing they did was mark them and take pictures so our security deposit would not be charged. A few months later after I called to remind them, they finally came to fix the countertop. They had to completely move every single thing out of the kitchen including the refrigerator and stove. They sanded and buffed the countertop which caused white dust to go through the entire apartment. Then the fumes of the new finish stayed in the apartment for a week. After the new vibrantly white, perfectly spotless countertop was finished, we were told that if there were ANY spots left on it when we move out, we would have to pay for it. Had to constantly run the bathroom fan otherwise the apartment would fill with cigarette smoke from other apartments. The air conditioning wall unit does not cool the bedroom. Even if you have it running all day with fans blowing from the living room to the bedroom, the bedroom will still remain at about 80 degrees and your electricity bill will be about $75 a month. Our heat register would randomly explode and start praying extremely hot water from the pipes, flooding the carpet and spray a nasty odor in the air. This happened four times and we were told it was fixed every time but it kept happening until we finally just turned the valves off to the heat registers even in the winter. We turned them back on the day we moved out. Unless you are on the 3rd floor you will constantly hear the people above you walking/running/jumping around very loud through their apartments and down the hallways. If you live anywhere near the outdoor pool, you will constantly hear all of the rowdy kids playing and screaming in the pool all night. They are never supervised by their parents and many of the kids are not residents. The dryers that cost $1.25 do not completely dry a load of laundry even if the load is not full. We could not dry towels, jeans or sweatshirts in the dryer. Management does not do anything to manage the residents; people were always making noise skateboarding on the sidewalks, near the cars and jumping off the picnic tables, right outside the apartment windows. I called the office many times to complain and they did nothing. Some residents prop the secure doors open with rocks or any other things they find on the ground letting anyone and everyone into the apartments. Cops are at the apartment at least once a week if not more for any and all reasons. Neither the delivery man, nor management leaves a notice in your mailbox or on your door to let you know you know a package waiting for you in the office. You just have to know when it is scheduled to arrive or check the tracking online. FedEx never delivers packages correctly. It took 2 weeks to get one package when I paid for 2 day shipping. The provided microwave is so small it can only fit a bowl, not even a plate. The stoves are tilted and the ovens do not cook properly. The public grills are so dirty and unkempt, they are unusable and disgusting. The smell of marijuana, wet dog and cigarette smoke is constant throughout the hallways. The swimming pools are always full of rowdy, unsupervised kids. They are also very dirty and no one ever showers before they get in the pool. The one and only fitness room is a joke. It is so small and there is rarely ever a machine open for use. Management randomly blocks off areas of parking for no reason and your car is towed immediately if you park there. The people who lived in the apartment before you are probably dodging creditors and you will get their late notices. The mailman will continue to deliver the notices to your box even if you notify him that they no longer live there. DO NOT live at Pearlwood Estates. You will regret every minute! I'll update you when we actually move out. Hopefully we get our security deposit back. I wish I could break my lease now and move out, but you have to pay 2 month's rent plus $250. I still may do it....
