I don't really understand all the bad reviews. I like my apartment a lot. I'm student and don't have a lot of money, so I guess you could say that I'm used to places that aren't top-notch. But I can tell you this is way better than anywhere I've lived near the U of M East Bank campus. My one bedroom is $700 flat which includes parking, and I only have to pay for wifi. I have a great view of Loring Park. The apartment was in very good condition when I moved in. Two great closets, etc. Not everything is perfect, but I like it a lot and have made it my own. I have had no issues with ----- or maintenance. People have left bad reviews about the laundry situation but I've never had an issue. The only thing I find really annoying is when the elevator goes down, but since I'm on the fifth floor, it's doable. So, if you're thinking about moving in higher than that, try to determine if you're okay with walking up that many flights of stairs for a couple days at a time, because the elevator doesn't work frequently. Anyway, like I said. I think it's pretty awesome for the price. One of my favorite places. EDIT (9/19/21): I have since learned after writing that review that this place is HORRENDOUS. During the last few months of my stay, the elevator broke down several times a week and water was down several times a week. So, don't count on being able to shower before work, etc. I exercise a lot, so that was really an issue with me going to work gross all the time. Also, there are people who move here specifically because of the elevator. ----- even talks it up. I was one of those people for medical reasons, as well. Well, what he doesn't tell you is that out of the two elevators, one never works. I mean, literally, like, it has not been turned on since I first moved in. Also, the one that does work only works sparingly, like I mentioned early. I would like to segue into a little story now, if you all will listen. As I was moving out, I met a woman in the parking lot who lives here and is in the process of suing this company because of the elevator and her medical issues. After ----- had talked the elevator up, she thought it was great and decided to move in purely because of the elevator (which she emphasized to him). She has a condition where if she gets breathing hard at all or does certain physical activities, she could literally die. They put her up on the fourth floor, and then the elevator started breaking down. They won't let her out of her lease and her threatening her this way and that for not paying rent, even though this building could literally kill her. Heartless. And since I mentioned move out day, let me explain what happened there, as well. I thank the gods I was so lucky, because it was nothing short of hell for everyone else. I was going on vacation the week of moveout and so I moved out all of my things a few days early to my new apartment, which was fine since the elevator was working that morning (it wasn't working later that evening, but we were already finished with everything---narrow escape). On actual moveout day, the elevators were down and it was over 95 degrees. Nobody could get a hold of ----- to figure out if their apartments were going to be inspected or anything or to talk to him about the elevator. Oh, water was out, too. I hadn't been there for a few days when I came to clean the apartment on moveout day, so I didn't know the water was down. My boyfriend went to the bathroom and the toilet got clogged because the water wasn't working, which the inspector tried to blame on us and say we broke the toilet or some stupid ----. Meanwhile, I saw people trying to haul couches, beds, dressers, tables, desks down up to nine flights of stairs, almost breaking their backs. Insanity, let me tell you. It's one thing to have to do that in a building where you don't expect to use the elevator, and you make more accomadations, but this was ridiculous. And this is my last thing to explain. I didn't know there was a two month move out policy. I am young (21) and have only ever lived in student housing, where you don't ever have to turn in a notice of leaving, but I always did a month early anyway. I know I should have looked at the lease and that was my fault, but I still turned it in 45 days before moving out, and they tried to charge me a full month of rent for that, which I flat out refused to pay. Maybe a fee or something, but a month of rent? Absolutely not. In addition to this, as I explained to ----- numerous times, I had to quit my job in August so I could get ready for school in September and finish the last (very strenuous) month of my summer internship. I had money to pay rent, but not an extra month, and not this -------- $200 move-out "administrative fee" they try to push on you. I had contacted him in advance of the last month asking if I could use my deposit as rent, because I have friends who lived in this building who never got their deposits back. I have personally seen their apartments at move out and can verify that their apartments only had normal wear and tear. I was scared to pay rent and not get my deposit back when I hadn't damaged the place at all, because I am very poor. No options. He directed me to the management company that never picks up, never checks their voicemail, and doesn't give a ----. He then started harassing me all month when I promised I would pay, but that I wouldn't physically have money until two weeks later than normal. I always paid my rent in full and on time up until this point, so he had no reason to not trust me. Still, I was constantly threatened with the fact that this supposed management company was going to destroy my life. I finally paid my rent, and tried getting in contact with him to get my deposit back and figure out how that would work out. At this point, he no longer took my calls or responded to any message I left for him. My boyfriend was in the building at one point when I wasn't, the day before moveout, and he ran into -----, who flippantly said, "Oh, did she schedule an appointment with the inspector to get her deposit back? No? Well, too late, oh well." He said this to my boyfriend, who's name is not on the lease and who was just dropping something off outside my door, when he wouldn't even be bothered to call me back. The next day was a fiasco, with no one knowing what was going on with the inspector. Some guy eventually showed up, had me sign some papers saying he inspected and that the place was clean and good to go (which I have a copy of and took pictures of) and that was that. To this day, I have not received my deposit. Legally, it is supposed to be returned by the end of business hours on the 21st, but I'm not holding my breath. I've already got my lawyer contacted at the U of M, so I'm just waiting for the day... Horrible people here. Do not do this to yourself. Do NOT live here.
