Resident 2006 - 2008

8/30/2008

I've lived in the Creamette Historic Lofts for a total of 26 months. It's the nicest apartment I've ever lived in. It should be noted, though, that it's the first apartment I rented since finishing school and entering "the real world." The apartments look really neat but the fact remains that they are cheap construction. The cabinets have some sort of inexpensive veneer on them that has started to chip off after the 2 years I've lived there. The carpets continue to shed (a lot!). The vast majority of the storage space in the kichen consists of wobbly shelves which I later discovered weren't even screwed into studs. The drywall has cracked in spots and has only been half-heartedly repaired. The air conditioning unit in my apartment needed freon added in both '07 & '08. I'm no HVAC specialist but to me that says there's probably a leak somewhere in the system. I wasn't issued a parking spot when I first moved there. When I later asked management if there were any spots available, they said no but they'd put me on a "waiting list." Two years later I still don't have a spot. I should also mention that there are huge potholes in the parking lot that have gone unrepaired for years. I question the integrity/maturity of some of the people who live there. For instance, there was an UPS package that was set outside the recipient's apartment which someone tore open and stole items out of. There was a hole punched in one of the walls (that took forever to be repaired, by the way). On a pretty regular basis people decide to leave large items of garbage in the trash room rather than take it outside and put it in the dumpster. One weekend guests of one of the tenants decided to let themselves into unlocked apartments...Classy! Obviously I didn't hate the apartment or else I would have moved out after my lease expired. There were 3 (well 4) reasons I didn't move...1. location 2. location 3. location 4. I hate moving! My suggestion to you...use your hard-earned money to rent a cool place in a nice neighborhood in South or Nordeast Mpls. You'll still be close to downtown but your rent dollars will go a lot further.
