Resident 2006 - 2008

3/30/2008

I had written a very negative review about this building previously, which I would like to correct/ammend. Things have definitely been a little chaotic over the last few months. The long-time building manager left and they have had many interim managers substituting over the past few months. Hopefully they will get someone permanent again - that will help greatly. I find the office staff has always been polite and helpful, the door will be closed at times, but that is more to avoid noises of people getting their mail when they are on phone calls. I have had good luck with the maintenance people - I had a heating problem over the winter when they had troubles with their new "state of the art" boiler system and I would dial the emergency pager at 6am and someone WOULD call me back within minutes! The rent price is very reasonable compared to what I have seen in the surrounding areas of Plymoouth, New Hope, Maple Grove, and Golden Valley. The new renovations are fabulous and I plan to re-new for a 3rd year as long as they don't raise my rent too much (for the renovations). The grounds always look impressive. There is some more "diversity" in residents than when I moved in 2 years ago - but I guess that happens (I am not talking Pakistani doctors, but young women with children, or thuggish looking guys - but they are polite and I'm just a bit of a snob). Friends of mine who visit here joke and call it a senior/retirement building - because it is mostly old people and the young working twenty somethings keep to themselves. They distribute a monthly newsletter and plan "outings", monthly birthday parties, and "popcorn Fridays" - LOL - so it does kinda feel campy and old. But I feel very safe! And as far as renting goes that is a big one for me. It is affordable. I like the fireplace in my apartment and love the heated underground parking. It is a convenient location and reasonably priced. I can pick up free internet from Bruegger's. The only disadvantages are no laundry facilities in apartment (but I never have trouble getting a machine in the laundry room nor with stealing), and no central air - but I assume these are the two factors that keep the rent reasonable. Very safe and quiet. Works for me!
