Tenant Beware: We've incessantly been mislead by The Grain Belt management team. After notifying them of our need to relocate out of state for work, the property manager urged us to advertise our unit on Craigslist. We were repeatedly assured that a sublease would happen quickly. Given the substantial interest we received almost immediately after our first of many postings, it seemed appropriate for us to believe in what we had originally been assured; that a transfer was imminent. After all, why wouldn't it be?
We were misled.
This Company's level of subversion toward honoring multiple known remedies we provided was stunning. Management's lack of communication and remarkable obstruction toward proceeding with qualified, move-in-ready applicants was also overwhelming not to mention their sustained disrespect and indifference toward us as tenants. Emails and phone calls to the leasing office and property manager were left almost entirely unanswered. Meanwhile, prospective tenants were left in limbo. When we finally did get ahold of someone from their office, our questions were quickly dismissed and deflected. At one point, a leasing agent even laughed after acknowledging the misery we've had to endure. Yet, despite their insensitivity, the office staff never hesitated to convey that we had nothing to worry about.
Their behavior was wrong.
Applicants we originally referred to our unit have subsequently indicated that they eventually went on to find other living arrangements after The Grain Belt leasing office failed to show them proper consideration and follow through with their correspondence. Such bizarre behavior on the part of this company during a strong market makes it difficult to fathom how they'd act toward customers in a downturn. By hook or by crook, it appears their efforts are focused squarely on swindling all who are unsuspecting of their chronic level of deception. As long as they're receiving rent payments, why would they care if an apartment sits empty and unavailable for months on end? Stopping payment and contesting the issue while applying for a new home could have temporarily impacted our credit and it was for this reason alone that we chose not to act further until now, since our lease is no longer effective as of 4/30/2017.
People have a right to know what they're getting into before stepping foot onto this property. While living at The Grain Belt, we experienced shoddy service, dirty facilities, thin walls, and an attempted break-in of our unit by an armed suspect, imperiling my fiancƩe's life while she was home alone. All of this comes before being hassled to the hilt by a company who simply does not appear to hesitate in denying and disenfranchising every attempt toward achieving a mutually efficacious outcome.
Whether you choose to rent from The Grain Belt or not, know this: If you're hoping for customer service, there's none to be found whatsoever. Only incompetence and false promises. Or, at least that's sadly been the glaring case in our experience.
