We were among the first to move into the Soo Line Building apartments, and stayed for 3 years. (Only moving for work related reasons.) I loved living in an apartment right on the skyway, and will always miss that fantastic feature. Walking the skyways for errands and for exercise is a fantastic perk! Our alcove bedroom unit was snug for two, but I enjoyed our small space for the low maintenance aspect, and found that the floor plan was very well designed with a surprising amount of storage packed into it. Both of us particularly enjoyed that our unit did not have carpeting, and the flooring was very easy to keep, with a quick sweep with a dust mop. "Cons" to living downtown would be noise, parking, and traffic, just as you would expect. The door to the unit does not filter hallway and elevator sounds at all, so if your neighbors are discourteously noisy in the halls, you will hear them as though they are in your place. The property is conveniently located between two major bus thoroughfares downtown, with the lightrail line right out the front door, but that does mean noise and low frequency vibration will bleed into your space. We kept an air cleaner running anyway, so the lightrail wasn't noticeable unless they were blowing the horn. The low frequency vibration caused by the passing light rail and the rush hour bus traffic does come through the building structure, and if you are sensitive to that sort of thing, that could be a problem. Noise coming into our apartment from within other neighbors' places was very rarely an issue for us, but on occasion if someone was having a party or playing loud music, the concierge would respond to the situation and resolve the noise problem. Speaking of the concierge(s), they were always terrific, and I will miss them, too. Very pleasant, always responsive and helpful: the Soo Line crew overall were a pleasure to work with. When we did move, we chose another Village Green property, and we're having an equally good experience.
