Resident 2013 - 2018

8/29/2018

I have lived here since 2013. Each year at lease renewal time my roommate and I debate whether or not to stay. This last year was the toughest decision yet. We are hoping the change in management is a positive one because we don't want to have to move. Our rent as increased $225 over a 5 year period, it's absolutely not worth it, I lived in a complex for 3 years once and my rent went up $35 Our old manager Shay was the WORST, she said what you wanted to hear. She couldn't keep a maintenance guy, we got new carpet in the hallways and it was a horrible job. SHE would prop the front security door open during the day. She approved people who should never have passed the "background check" so the clientele was gross. Hanging out in hallways and being loud. The pool sits on a marshy land and it opens late all the time. This year we don't have a maintenance guy with a pool license so the pool has been closed a lot. Nathalie (newest manger) is working hard to get the place cleaned up, which I appreciate. i know management doesn't control rent increases but with the last one Shay told me it increases 5% a year!!!!! Guess what? I went 6 years at a job with no wage increase and now my current job gives me a 2% a year increase. Soon I will be living under a freeway entrance ramp. I keep hearing about affordable housing crisis and everything being built is for low income or luxury, I don't qualify for low and can't afford luxury. They claim that we pay market rate but I'm not sure where this company gets their numbers from....the complex across the street is $300 less but doesn't have underground parking (we pay $50 a month per stall so that isn't in the rent) they don't have a pool ( opens late, closed a lot the last 3 summers), party room (newly remodeled, but not as functional and according to others residents that is what Shay was going for) and the fitness center was closed for almost 3 months for "remodeling". Whether we stay next depends on whether things keep improving and how much our rent goes up. I'm marking No I wouldn't recommend , that's "as is" if things change I will update!
