Resident 2007 - 2009

4/22/2009

My fiance and I lived in the Cinnamon Ridge complex for a little over 2 years, and really enjoyed it. The building was nice, it was fairly quiet (for an apartment, let's face it, you're going to hear your neighbors sometimes), the buildings and grounds were always kept clean, and the staff was always great. Then came the time to renew our lease for the last time, and we made it known when we were setting up the duration of it that it would be our last lease there. The person that helped us was so great, and went way above and beyond and out of their way to help us in any thing we needed. After signing everything we realize that the length of the lease was longer than we asked for, so we pointed it out and we were told they would "take care of it" right away. Being so helpful we had grown to trust them, which was obviously the biggest mistake we made living there. Time went by and living there was great, we didn't think anything more of the length of the lease, and then the time comes and goes that we should have received our notice that the lease was running out. Upon going down to the office the person that helped us so much wasn't there that day, and someone that said they were the property manager told us that it was all in writing that the lease was longer and it couldn't be changed. Part way through trying to reason with them that it was an employee error and it couldn't be that long of a lease, the person that helped us write it up walked in, saw us, then walked out, and since then they won't look us in the eye or say anything. We ended up having to go through the process of finding someone to sublease to, and when we thought we weren't going to find anyone, went and tried to make a compromise with the manager. Basically they had no desire to hear anything, and just wanted money, not caring that this was a serious error made by one of their own employees who wouldn't even apologize, which just made it all feel like it was done on purpose. They were very rude, and at one point when talking about the length of time needed to give a vacate notice, we had a tenants rights book literally thrown at us on their desk and a threat that we could bring them to court (nothing was brought up by us about court at all to provoke it). We were so shocked and appalled that a property manager was being so unprofessional and downright rude that we left thinking we would be stuck with a huge bill that we honestly couldn't afford. Thankfully we managed to find someone to take the apartment, and as soon as we found someone it was like the property manager was a totally different person to us. Being polite, and pretty much acting like none of that had happened before. All in all, it can be a nice place to live.... but we would have to warn that when you're writing up your lease to watch the employees like a hawk and don't ever leave them with anything to "take care of" later, no matter how trusting and friendly they seem. Some of them may be great, but the one we had was clearly very untrustworthy and took advantage of our trust to get some kind of personal benefit from it.
