Resident 2005 - 2009

6/19/2009

I want to let everyone reading these reviews to be aware of the fact that the first two reviews written on this site, were written by individual(s)(two members of the same family) who left here on VERY bad terms. The 10/13/2007 and the 2/9/2008 were mean and vindictive and almost entirely fictitious. There was no harassment by teen boys of their daughter nor was their deliquency issues, there was no filling of units from the property managements project facility for single mothers w/substance abuse issues, their IS very much an arts focus here even when the artist criteria was down because of IRS stuff we were still art focused, there's no vandalism or garbage issues, or unsupervised children or pest infestations, smoking vs. nonsmoking? (yeah right...) and what have you.... The reviews were nothing more than a malicious attempt to thwart our wonderful and thriving community.......On that note.... I love this community. Yes it's true, there have been problems here from time to time. Person per person though, it's no different statistically than the burbs. At any rate, the benefits far outweigh the risks and if you are aware of the problems, they are easily combated. My two children and I have been here for four years now and I have no intention of moving until my youngest is grown... she's 6. I will have the ability to own a home soon but am no where near ready to leave such a wonderful, caring, supportive, environment. The community here is really close. Everyone knows one another. There are events and activities for the adults, for the children, and for families here. The adults work and play well together and so do all of the children. We are also close and involved with the broader community surrounding us, which amounts to an active neighborhood watch. There is so much for everyone here. We have people who participate in a horseshoe league with the broader community where, on the north side of our building, there are horseshoe pits. The kids are getting kickball teams organized and together to play kickball across the street at the Sheffer Rec. Center fields. We have barbecue's a lot in the summer where the whole community gets involved. We have private and community gardens where community members can grow, pick, barter and trade for flowers, veggie and herbs. The art here is also amazing. There are so many people here with so much talent and experience. The art shows here are spectacular. We also host our neighborhood's National Night Out event. We work together and play together is the message here I guess. We look out for each other and for each others kids. It's unlike anything you can imagine. The diversity here is also a welcome change of pace. There are people here from virtually every walk of life. And, as diverse as the population is here, is how diverse each of the apartments are as well. Just like every family is different, every unit is equally as different. No two are exactly alike. I happen to love my lower level unit with a patio and raised garden beds and huge open main floor plan. The upper level units though have high cielings, tall windows and bigger bedrooms. All offer something endearing, unique and intriguing all their own. And, because this is an artists co-op, there are countless options for decoration your unit. My son is a graffiti artist and has done amazing things to his room, and I have painted and decorated the rest of the space which is something I've never been able to do in a regular apartment. We also have a board of members and several committees that get to decide and help decide how we spend money and what kinds of things need doing and get done around the property. Not something you experience in a typical apartment setting. That aspect is exciting to me. I get to help decide how much money the garden committee gets and what projects around the grounds get done. This year it's revamping the lawns, next year it will be plum trees to go with our apple tree and the berry patch that was planted last year. AWESOME!!! Where else can you go and live and get to say where YOUR money goes??? Oh yeah.... did I mention that there is now a security committee? Well, there is. And since it's activation our problems here have been drastically reduced. Imagine that!!! Well... Thanks for reading....And, please stop by for a visit and a tour. We'll be happy to show you around. :) ---- M. FFLAC
