I have lived here for just about 2 years. I was looking for an apt. that was off the beaten path a little bit, in fact unless you are looking for it, you probably wouldn't drive up the apt. street. What's nice about it is you have all the important stuff within a mile of the place- no downtown- but the closest thing you are going to find in 2004/5: Maryland Heights post office, great place to go on Saturday morning and mail a letter- you may take a number and wait maybe 5 minutes (so what) then go down to the grocery store- (great shnuck's) with a no fee Bank America ATM in the store, across from that is a nice Ace Hardware store, next to that gas stations Shell, Mobil, Phillips 66, a few dry cleaners and every major fast restaurant. If you need something quick you have a small but very efficient IGA grocery 300 feet down the road from Westport Apts. (local folks run it since the 1960's) and if you didn't fill your gas tank the night before you have a Quick trip 300 feet away for gas, a donut and some coffee. A nice florist is just down the street from apt. entrance.
The safety factor is something that is important. I have found Westport Station a safe place to live. All my neighbors are nice folks- I never seen a police car out here for a disturbance. I am a man, but I would recommend it to man or a woman. It is not a party community. In the day everyone is off to work and at night park your car and relax in your nice apartment.

Nice stuff- Each year at Christmas time we have apt decorating contest, lots of people put at least a string out on the balcony- they go all out lighting up the leasing office. In the monthly Westportword apt. newsletter, they announce we can all chip in a dollar or so more in our rent to buy Christmas presents for a few sponsored kids- the staff usually sells Krispy Cremes on you your way out of the complex one morning a couple of weeks before Christmas to help with buying the presents- these folks are trying to make this place a nice to live.
I have a one bedroom apt. overlooking the school and the park which is adjacent to the apartments- nice park, you can even get an apartment that allows you to walk right into it, if your into jogging or walking. The school is prime time- they just put in all new playground equipment for the kids and they have all the back-to school, special plays and concerts that is always well attended by the parents- in other words good place for kids to go to school. A school a little it up the street ballpark was a site where one of the hot air ballons landed during last Sept. great American Balloon Festival- neat!
Malls are about 10-15 minutes away, as well as Walmarts and most dining.
I work in downtown St. Louis and leave about 715AM and get there around 750-800AM. You have traffic both ways (AM and PM)on Page ave, I170 to Route 40 but it always moves and that's what you have to trade off if you want to live near a big city but not in it.
The apartments have okay appliances, refrigerator and stove not the latest models, but the apartment is energy efficient- highest I paid for electric heat or A/C was 64.00 once- most of the time around 35.00. I had the toilet fixed once- needed new flapper, they cleaned my rugs once a year (free) and they come the next day- good service.
Summary: I looked at the apartments around here for the last couple of years and for me I would still choose Westport Apartments. I like the idea of going out to all that St. Louis has to offer and return to my off the beaten path apartment- it's safe, quiet and close to everything.
