Resident 2004 - 2005

6/11/2006

heinous!!

Don't even think about this place.

There were constant parties, which I didn't too much mind, but when neighbors are blasting music out of an open window so that it is too noisy to think (let alone sleep) at 4am on a weeknight it gets to be just too much.

Nobody ever, ever picks up the phone in the office. I should have realized that something was horribly wrong when I had to move in late because nobody picked up the phone or returned my calls for 3 weeks when I wanted to sign the lease. I was in love with the apartment & the location, and I believed them when they said it was due to staff changes. Stupid me, apparently they are constantly changing staff.

Gas was sky-high in winter because our heating system was prehistoric. AC is also inefficient, probably because they aren't kept up.

The courtyard is supposedly only accessible to residents, but the locks are perpetually broken. We once did not get any mail for an entire month because nobody did anything about a lock that the mail carriers needed to use. When I called the leasing office they blamed the post office! Finally they "fixed" the lock by removing it completely. Shortly after that, some sketchy-looking stranger wandered into our apartment once (we'd unwisely left it unlocked not realizing that the courtyard AND building front door locks were all broken), then acted like it was a mistake when he saw that people were home. Later, our apartment was robbed. We were woken up all the time by fights that spilled over from Delmar when the last of the bars closed at 3am.

The office demanded we pay for an alarm system that we asked them to install again and again (never did). when we stopped paying alarm fees after 5 months of no installation, they threatened to evict me until I wrote a letter to the management office explaining why we refused to pay for the "alarm service." They also demanded that we pay for a phone line that was needed for this nonexistent alarm system as well as for the gate intercom which -- you guessed it! -- never works either.

What little maintenance work was done was often done without any notice to tenants, an inconvenience when your AC was shut off without warning for roofing work, for instance. There was a WEEK of no response from maintenance when our neighbors' apartment flooded... just imagine having to live in a flooded apartment for an entire week! After that awful week, someone was sent to pump out the water, but no carpets were replaced or even cleaned. The mold that followed made everyone on the floor sick, including me.

For $600 a month for a 1-bedroom you expect more.
